My existing company has specified that it is unable to insure me due to a change in their underwriting criteria! I’m trying to get further info but doubt if anything is forthcoming.

I will have to declare this with any new insurance.

Has anyone experienced this before please? Many thanks.

Might be worth doing a search on a comparison site to see what comes up. My renewal is due and doing a search there were few choices , not sure why so few perhaps age ?

There was one last week, seem to remember it was linked to the van being kept outside the country, or registered there - something that had changed with leaving the EU.

Depends if the declined to insure for a reason or declined to quote.

Normally if they have decided to not to take on certain risks they decline to quote, so technically they have not refused to insure you.

We have had it a few times with the house insurance because according to the DOE we are in a high risk flood area. When there is a lot of flooding in other areas companies often decline to quote.

They haven't refused to insure you, they've refused to quote , there's a difference

Being refused or cancelled can be a pain because you cant use comparrison sites any more and the action can cost money and agravation. I once had insurance cancelled because the previous company had not sent details of ncd within a fortnight. To Some companys its not a problem but to others its a wrong box ticked with risk associated.

I’ve often had companies decline to quote and it is purely because of where my van is parked overnight. Private parking bays attached to flats are often deemed to be ‘on street parking’ which they are not but some insurers won’t cover.

I was told parked on the street wasn't a problem because if they want the vehicle they don't know where the keys are

Different insurance companies have different business models, so some do not want to take on certain risks, when I replaced an imported MX5 for a lower insurance group car I expected a lower premium but when I contacted the company they told me that they specialise in imported vehicles so it would not be any cheaper. When the renewal came round I found a much cheaper quote.
As others have said a refusal to quote is not the same as a refusal to insure.
