Anybody come up with a better way of keeping a hartal door open on an autosleeper broadway than the stupid metal/nylon retainer. My 3rd one just broke in the wind, and at £21 a pop is getting expensive. If I put a normal door retainer on it will stretch the wires, although I could extend those easily.

Having had the one that came with the van being ripped off in a gust at Sedburgh, I baulked at being further ripped off by paying £20 for a replacement. So now I use a bungee through the Hartal handle and the other end hooked on the hub cap. Inelegant granted, but it keeps the door open and costs nothing.

I use a bungee to help stop it from being blown shut but if it’s windy enough to give that some movement too I keep the door closed to take the stress off.
Unfortunately not locking open against the side of the van makes it into an effective sail and IMV a poor idea as designed to prevent wiring stress while causing another problem

We had the same plastic slider break on the Hartal door on our Burstner last year.

The replacement kit was not available at the time so I bought a set of these off Ebay as the same restraint are already fitted on the locker doors.....

A bit of working out gave me the optimum positioning to stop any chance of the 'bulgy' polycarbonate window on the Hartal door making contact with the van body.

Correct length stainless self tappers and sikaflex secured the parts and now work a treat.

I keep an appropriate length bungy cord that hooks, without tension, on to both the hartal and cab door handles as a safeguard if the wind is in a direction that may try to blow the door closed. The elastication in the bungy acts as a damper should that happen.

Thanks for the replies folks. Keeping the door open is easy with bungees as described I do as well. Its when SHMBO opens the door and the wind takes it and slams past the stop position. I might try experimenting with some hydraulic struts, if I get anywhere I'll report back
