Yesterday was the Webs 28th Birthday. On the 12th March 1989 Tim Berners-Lee released his design/proposal for the www.

It has changed the world in massive ways. Along with Linux and GNU they make up the triumvirate of the three technologies that underpin pretty much all computer based technology today.

Happy birthday http and www.

I'm surprised it's only 28 years old. Can remember using it in 1992, didn't realise it was so new then. Wonder how much info was online then. Dial up was 1p a minute, sounded cheap but 5 hours a day =£3 X 30 days =£90 a month. 25 years on I pay a third of that for super fast, plus all landline calls.

I remember helping a friend set up a helicopter sales site in 94 called RotorNet and trying to figure out things like Winsock, gopher and having to restart navigator many time a day due to crashes. I loved the Newsgroups and IRC and getting all excited about ICQ....

I just checked, and I must have been on the internet before 92 as I remember Moving across to Demon internet soon after it launched.
