I have just 'totalled up' my diesel use over the last 24000 miles and I am very happy with the results :D

Average overall 36.2 mpg :)

Best 43.7 (y)

Worst 31.0 :(

These are on Fiat PVC 130 manual. No short journeys and mostly at 55 mph indicated when cruising. All seasons have been covered with highest outside temperature of 28 degrees centigrade and lowest of -5 degrees centigrade. Water tank filled to the max every couple of days (100 litres) and fuel tank filled to max (120 litres) every 800 miles or so. Average 'cruising' weight 3000 kgs.

I'm a happy boy :):D:LOL:

It's a remarkable figure. My 3.0 litre has done 27mpg averaged over two years.

No idea but I would have thought 23-25 mpg max for ours.

Of course, MPG is a relative thing............. When we bought the van we were confident in doing 12000 miles or more per year

If we were to do say 4000 miles then really the mpg would not be an issue.....;)

i drive "normal" keep up with the traffic and 69 on cruise control on motorways in our 2.3 Euro V FIAT and the average over the last 3 years from new has been 26.8 mpg.
van is usually at around 3.4 Tonne

Just realised........... due to the way I have accounted for the averages it does not include trips that are 'between' full tank refills.

On our way from Gijon to Portugal last year we averaged over 49 mpg (yes 49!) before getting off the motorway just before Seville :D It did seem mostly downhill though from high up on the Spanish Plains (y)

I was impressed, now I'm confused, our 08 reg 130 manual Ducato PVC has probably returned 29-31 mpg over 30K, but I creep up to70 now and then!
cheers

Ok are we talking trip computer calculations or tank to tank actual measurements.

Our 3.0l 4.5T Kon-Tiki does 27.4 according to the trip computer and 22.7 averaged over tank fills.

Includes trip to France and a few trips up to Brecon.

I am referring to actual measurements, I am almost embarrassed  to say that I have recorded every single litre of diesel that has ever gone in the tank

The '49' was off the trip computer but as it happens mine is pessimistic by nearly 1 mpg (so it was more likely to be 50 !)

And you are not alone Chocks...........suddenly lower mpg figures often the first sign of something amiss in the mechanicals... as what I know about mechanicals could be writ in Sanskrit on a pin head it's good for me!(y)
And as you say...less spent on the demon derv allows purchase of other things! Wine, women and song merely being three of many!:D

Very nice, you have good driving skills. I would like, but happy with my 24mpg 2.8jtd I drive around 55-65 and accelerate quite hard and sometimes pull a trailer.

Secretly related to BUTTONS !!!!

If you spend k30+ on a m/h and then find it does less than 30 mpg, what do you do? Stay at home more!!

Average 24/ 25 to gal only over 60 on the down hills Lgv advanced driving instructor, 2.3 euro 5 engine 4.2 fully loaded,
the above is only a estimated yet I might be bullsh -ting

I logged mileage and litres religiously during our first big, fully laden, trip - 7 weeks to France. Returned 28mpg, which was pretty much as expected. Haven't bothered since.
On, say, 5,000 miles a year, at 25mpg, you'll get through 200 gallons. At 35mpg, it'll be 143 gallons. That's a difference of 67 gallons, or 304 litres. At £1.15 just now, that's 350 quid.
Of course that's a lot of money, but not in the overall scheme of van ownership and use. Certainly not enough to make me use the van less, or change to a more economic model.
And yes, I know it's not long since diesel was £1,50, making £456, but I've also used quite an extreme mpg disparity. And it's cheaper abroad anyway.
Just my way of looking at it. (y)

Who says you have to at home more
We do lots of weekends away within 30 miles of home and when we do long runs we stay away for longer periods
So when we did Morocco last year yes we used a lot of fuel but over 3 months it a lot smaller percentage of the total cost of our trip
Everyone is differant

Well happy with ours, didn't expect that much and has lived up to expectations. Close to 6 tonnes cruise at 55mph just above 20 mpg.

It's OK.

With the MPG some of you guys are getting, you should sell the car and use the MH, you save loads of money.

I get 22/23, which as you can tell is a Loooooong way from 50 mpg.
