Hi folks. Can anyone recommend a reliable company in the Norwich area to carry out a full habitation check and service on our 2007 Mizar? Thanks!

Hi
We always use Simpsons of Gt Yarmouth.
Ray

Try The Caravan Engineer. Darren, he's mobile and has done our hab check at the house twice now 07873288517. £160 all in

Is Darren the guy from Spixworth ?

No I think he's from Yarmouth but does travel. He came up to North Norfolk and still only charged £160. That's his trading name " The Caravan Engineer".....but he does vans too.

Interested to know why you get a hab check done on a van you already own?
Of course you want to know it's good and has one when you buy /sell but what's the purpose of shelling out £160 for something you already know the history of.
Genuinely curious not wanting to cause a stir. Is it part of keeping warranty or some weird insurance clause or something.

Another recommendation for Simpson’s at Great Yarmouth.
They are Fiat Professional dealers as well.

Richard

A hab check should be more like a hab service where they don’t just look at your van and tell you what’s wrong but actually adjust and put right minor problems as well. Lubricate things that need oiling, clean gas bits that need cleaning, that sort of stuff.

Warranty. You bet your life the stealer would shaft you if something expensive went wrong and you hadn't had a hab check as per the t&c's It's like any insurance, when you don't need it, it's a waste of money but when you do use it you're glad you did. £160 isn't a lot in the scheme if things if something expensive went wrong and the dealer had to fork out rather then the owner.
Once the warranty is up though I won't be seeing Darren again.

I totally agree re the warranty but the OP says his van is 2007, surely that's outside any warranty period?

I use Simpsons too, I've always found them to be quite thorough.....

Could be an extended third party warranty perhaps??

Hi,

My reasoning is that I want a complete check for damp that I may not have noticed myself but mainly I'm after a service of the fridge, cooker and heating units as I'm not sure they have ever been checked prior to us buying the Moho last year.

Cheers, Mike

I don’t think those items will be serviced as part of a normal habitation check unless you specifically ask for them to be done.
Hab check is more of a quick look round, damp check, gas test to check for leaks and perhaps an electrical check.
If you want a fridge service you will probably have to pay extra.
Ask what they cover before booking the van in.

I think that's correct. It's just a check to see if all the systems are or king OK and safe.

Its not a habitation service, its just an inspection,,Rip off. BUSBY.

Trouble is if they said it was a Habitation Service then you would expect them to do something like a Service. A Habitation Check means just that. They CHECK it in the hope of finding something that needs fixing. This is one of the reasons the Dealers quote you stupidly long delays for getting items fixed they are all to busy doing Habitation Checks and charging astronomic prices for it.

If the OP wants the Fridge and Boiler serviced and cleaned then it's not going to be that cheap because you have extra labour.

Hi

Thanks for the replies. I understand that some people would rather not have their vehicles checked by a professional. We have owned the Moho for about 16 months and believe that we will be keeping it a while longer yet. Before we decide on investing more money in it (extra leisure battery and solar panel), we want to make sure there are no underlying issues with damp that we are not aware of. At the same time I intend to have the fridge, cooker and heating serviced as we have no evidence that it has ever been looked at before. I’d rather be safe than sorry and am looking to future proof our investment as much as possible.

As said previously, we understand that some will view this as a waste of time but everyone to their own.

Cheers.

Another vote for Beck's. Explain what you want in detail as above. They will advise what they can offer and cost.
