Do any funsters know of a replacement dealer or fitter for a Carthago pleated door flyscreen as ours is broken we believe beyond repair

Kath

There have been recent threads about repairing fly screens. How badly damaged is yours?

Broke our a few weeks back. Forgot to tie the door back when the wind picked up. Managed to fit it all back together again but had to make a plate to hold the broken frame together.

Thread running through mesh broke had a man who does blinds fix it , he tied new threads on the hinge side but that didnt last now gathered on the hinge side unable to slide across..
Ps after the blinds man repaired it ...the screen still was difficult to use

I have instructions from the MMM magazine on how to restring. If you want them let me know. We did it on our last van, but only replaced the bottom string.
PhilMary has had a go at it recently. Not heard if it was successful or not. If it's broken you have nothing to lose you might as well give it a go.

Thank you for the info Hill and Ingwe

Alas no cord in Sutton on Sea ...will try Mablethorpe perhaps at the caravan shop

The repair shown in the MMM is for a Hartalight flyscreen.

The flyscreen in my Carthago is made by Horrex. The basic operation of the cord system is the same from either manufacturer.

The main differences are :

The Horrex has riveted corner pieces and the cord diameter is less, about 1mm.

The Hartalight has plastic corner pieces and uses self tapping screws. The cord diameter is 1.5mm.

The Horrex uses an extended rivet in the top & bottom channels to act as a pivot point for the cord system. So best to ONLY remove rivets on the side uprights when disassembling the frame.

Hi I've sent you both a PM with instructions. I got them from Ingwe . I think he's the real expert.
I’m flattered Hills and Glenns, to be called an expert! Hardly, I did my own and had that article. I still have it if anyone wants it. Hope you are having a good summer.(y)

Hi Having a lovely summer thanks sending you a PM.

Thanks to all for your recent help.
I have all the bits (Kevlar string from fishing shop) and the instructions all ready, it's just the nerves required to "rip apart" the door.

Results of our efforts
We were unable to obtain - fishing or kite cord ..but was given some cord that came from Dunelm stores in cream ..
Hubby took the plunge and tried to remove the whole frame but of course there is always one hiccup...top right corner has tower structure built over it and too big a problem to remove all in our situation
But this was overcome ...Hubby managed to release the mesh side eventually and strip old threads out and measured as per instructions and I thankfully had a plasting darning needle (I expect from a xmas cracker) lol and rethread ...
Then John had to reassemble all
Door is up and working but we will still need to replace it asap..
Thank you to the funster who gave us the cord.... Sian ...Mrs Jim and to all the funsters for their help and advice
:thanks5:

John n Kath

On my Carthago I had difficulty removing the flyscreen because of the overhead built-in (glued) cabinet work.

I had to remove the plastic entry footwell and remove the wooden spacers below the base of the flyscreen. Even then it was a bit of a struggle, having to bend the plastic uprights a tad.

To ease reinstalling the flyscreen, I reduced the height of the flyscreen frame by 1cm. It went back easily then.

Hi Champers I have a Door fly screen assembly still Got for Sale on Page 62 , date April 30th 2018 in Classified Section for £40 if this helps.

mubob here's the article on repairing the Hartal/Horrex door flyscreen, and a link that may be useful on replacing the cords from the Horrex website.

I re-strung our cords with 1mm kevlar kite string.

We gave up on ours after a repair lasted “ not very long “ , replaced with those rats tails you see on caravans , work an absolute treat . However added blue diamanté tie backs for a bit of bling and we chose the blue n grey . 👍
