We have had an AT and now have a Carthago and I have walked on both. The AT was like a trampoline, the Carthago feels solid.

Personally I would not choose to stand on any van roof
This may be partly down to my size
I feel working from a good set of ladders is safer
I have a set of these that I have had for years 25+
They will extend enough that I can get to the house eves if required and can be set on uneven ground but they are not cheep
You can still fall of them if you want to

Another hands and knees culprit here, even been known to lay on the roof to spread the load, I would never stand on it. Very lucky as I can step straight on as I have a sunken driveway next to a convenient brick wall and raised lawn so no need for a ladder.

I'm still looking for the answer to the Holy grail of conundrums, how do you clean the overcab area, I mean really clean it as in cut and polish, without a trip to A&E.
