End of our first year with them and renewal received. We have received two renewals emails/docs - one for insurance and a separate (£75) one for Excess protection. Wasn't even aware that I had taken out Excess protection. Never seen it before issued as two separate policies and renewals - is this the norm?

£75 seems a lot just to protect your excess ? How much is the excess ?
Have a careful read of t&C's and decided if it's justified.

Not seen that as an option on car/MH insurance before...I have used excess insurance on hire cars. Usually they are about £40 for a annual policy.

Voluntary & Compulsory Excess is £500 so £75 does seem on the high end for XS protection. Will be getting some alternate quotes before speaking with them.

Never heard of Grove and Dean as a MH insurer.
What was your first premium cost? And renewal?

They are a broker. Last year (my first) was £313 + £75 XS protection. Renewal is £258 + £75 XS protection. Both include breakdown.

First year was with 0 NCD and renewal has 1 year NCD.

Having now checked a few other quotes I'm pretty happy with the renewal figure although I may drop the XS protection this year.

Havnt a clue what this excess thing is but even so if it's including breakdown it seems very reasonable.

So who is the insurance actually with?

The insurer on the renewal document is shown as "Highway Specialist F/C EDI".

Never heard of them to be honest.

Edit to add - looking at the certificate itself it was with LV=

Highway is a LV department specialising in unusual risks, such as teenage drivers and specialist vehicles.

Thank you that makes sense.

They don’t have very long European cover, think they said 28 days.
I’ve just got a good price with NFU, just had to find separate breakdown cover.

F/C EDI stands for "full cycle electronic document interchange" . A very old product tag meaning both new policies and renewals (full cycle) can be dealt with electronically between the broker and the insurer. You did ask.

Grove and Dean are solicitors doing brokerage reasonable price includes breakdown and legal. Don’t know what there like when you need to claim
