Just looking at getting a ground sheet for our trip to Spain is this the type of thing they use?

yeah.. that's what I used.. covered most of the pitch with it at Roquetas Camping, as do most others, keeps the dirt down..

.. bought it a a local garden centre..

also need a bag of 6in nails and a lump hammer .. ground was hard as iron

Cheers @scotjimland i was going to tape the edges and put some holes in with protectors to stop it ripping

Its what we use here at Villasol, however I put a layer of cheap builders polythene under the areas where we walk to prevent the 'blinding' coming through when wet. It has already paid off as we had a very wet late October through November. I don't protect the edges and nail it down with 4" nails with washers about ½ meter apart.
Cheers

Is that breathable? Reason for asking is that we've always used cheapo tarpaulins cut in half and the cut edge "hemmed" by turning over and gluing with contact adhesive. These work fine in summer, but this time of year they're soaking underneath and mucky due the condensation from the earth.

We used it and left it for the next person that was after 6 months

Or buy when you get there.
The local camping shops stock the stuff all the Spanish use.
As recommended above, take some heavy duty nails and some washers, far better than the crap pegs they sell in the shops.

Thought that was the whole point of them in the winter.

We don't use them but many on the site we stay on do, we use breathable awning ground covers and we get lots of condensation and weeds growing through.
