Hi,
First post since joining a while back, but can anyone help please?

We have a Benimar Tessoro which we love, but the grey waste exit valve is on the centre line of the van which means we have to seek out places with drive over facilities. We are finding this restrictive. Can anyone suggest ways of converting the knife gate valve to a more useable system, e.g. pipe to the side of the van as seen on many motor homes.
I am a capable diy’er ::bigsmile:......up to a point:rolleyes:.

Grateful for any thought or assistance.

Thanks,
John

Find the size and ask at your local plumbers merchants about solvent weld waste pipes.
Or on line - mine is 40mm diameter

In case you're confused, there are two types of PVC/ABS pipe. Waste pipe is thin and not designed to take high pressure. Irrigation pipe is thicker and will take mains water pressure without problems.

Waste pipe is fine for MH waste systems. Some of the items in the picture, like the valve and bends, are high pressure irrigation pipe fittings. Irrigation pipe fittings are often difficult to find in UK DIY stores.

Ours too, though not a Benimar. it's such a pain. But ours has a sliding open/shut valve, I guess yours must too? By the time you've added more pipework, it'll be too low and will ground easily?

Your options are going to be defined by what you currently have fitted. There is no point installing 50mm pipe, if the valve you’ve got is 15mm.
Stick a pic on of what your current setup is, and you will get better advice 👍🏻

That’s a great start. Some vans have a tiny silly small flex pipe.

Most common adaptation on a Benimar, simply add some pipe work and continue to use the existing gate valve. Benimar uk owners on fb is a great resource for info.

Had the same problem under a Burstner a few years ago so used to carry a length of plastic pipe with a funnel stuck to the end.

Ratcatcher, can you tell me what exactly is the 90 degree bend attached under the gate valve, and how is it secured (or is it just the pipe clip holding it up?)
Thanks again

The photo is from the fb Benimar uk owners site, on mine I used standard waste pipe fitting from my box of bits in the shed, the hole in the tank is slightly too small for the pipe to push in, so I slightly chamfered the pipe until, it was a tight fit, the the pipe clip holds it in, here’s mine just standard 40mm waste pipe and fittings.

Irrigation fittings or the equivalent can be bought in most garden centres in the water garden section! They are used for the large filtration systems used for Koi carp!

I also have a benimar, I had a hose from a old Hoover that fitted perfect, I used it a couple of times on the drive, then thinking I would never use it, I threw it away, I’m still regretting throwing it. 🤣

Some of the images I'm seeing in this thread look very innovative.

BUT the resulting systems look oh so vulnerable to being knocked off on the first piece of uneven ground or aggressive speed bump encountered.

Admittedly, our previous coachbuilt had reasonable ground clearance. But I find the current PVC restricted on that score. Have already wrecked an electric step going over a traffic calming hump at circa 12mph. :(

As said above, extend the pipe, to the side of the van with similar, fit a manual valve and a 90° bend on the end then leave the centre valve always open. Worked for us.
