Well, we're close to buying our first 5th Wheel & trying to do as much research as we can.
We're hoping to spend a lot of time at CL sites in the UK (28 days at a time) as we prefer the smaller parks & we'd be using our own shower and toilet. The only thing we can't figure out is the grey & black water disposal, as most CL sites seem to only have one. Does that mean we'd have to move the 5th Wheel to the waste point every 3-4 days, or is it possible to get waste pipe extensions, and if so, what's the maximum length?
Any tips? How do you guys/girls do it?

Hello and welcome. :)

I don't know anything about 5th wheels but you can certainly get waste hoses for motorhomes. We have a couple of differing lengths which resemble the hose on a vacuum cleaner. They clip on the outlet and away you go! As for the maximum length... a lot depends on whether the waste point is slightly downhill I would think.

RV and Fifth wheelers often use macerators to pump from tank to wast point or/and a tote tank on wheels where waste disposal is above ground as some are.
For fresh water worth carrying at least a couple of hose reels to save moving.

We have seen several 5th wheelers using larger version of caravan waste trolleys. When we had an RV we used a mancerator pump and 30m of flat hose. Made rolling up easier and storage.

On some of the CLs we have used you would need a very long pipe to reach their disposal points and you need to bear in mind other vans will be there as well so you’re best bet is to use a portable grey waste tank and toilet cassette.

Hi Jamie,

There are quite a few options. Moving the RV s one of them, but the least practical. You could buy a macerator and roll flat hose. I've used one successfully for years, but when they go wrong it's spectacular. But over the years, when I can't "gravity dump" I've settled on a rollaway small tank, so you just empty like any other motorhomer, but not as often as you can carry more. This is the one I use and it even has the right 3½ inch connectors for your RV (y) . Once you have this you will never be stuck and will always be able to easily empty black and grey.

I have a 5th wheeler and I have a composting toilet that solves the problem with the black tank emptying. My black tank and gray tank can be connected together. A tote tank I use to move the grey water for emptying. If your in Somerset at any time you could come over to see it.

Hi I would suggest calling the site prior to going to ensure they can service your requirements, most will be able to help as they have seen it all before, Dave above has a good system and I will look into it, we are on our 3rd 5ver and rarely have a problem, I have a large tote that is designed to be capable of towing short distances, you could if managed properly just empty the black when full, the gray is easy to get rid of and if you’re doing all the normal things like shower cook wash up etc, you will need to be close to a tap for city connection or a long hose pipe and use the pump... good luck the short answer is ask the site good luck...see you on the road.

I would have thought that a black tank would go a lot longer than 3-4 days before needing emptying? a cassette is good for 2-3 days, number of fillers depending of course.

We used to use a macerator with several lengths of hose that is sold for water filling hose for RVs, just join the number of hoses together to reach the dump point, we have used lay-flat but this is better with a length of 'proper' hose at each end to stop kinking. Once you have sorted dumping out you will wonder why everyone else sticks to cassette system!!!!!!!! A macerator will pump quite a long way, a little grey first then just black--- when finished, the rest of the grey to flush out the hose/macerator

When we bought our 5'er we cadged a large 'tote' from Calder Leisure, think it holds 18gals and is designed for the 3 ins waste connector, however we found it totally impractical for 2 reasons:

too large for carrying around in the van or pickup

almost impossible to empty into a raised chemical disposal point even when half empty.

We eventually used an old cylindrical caravan water container and obtained a 3ins to 1 1/2 ins adaptor for the outlet.

Just checked on the price of 18 gal totes......£275/300.......Aquaroll or similar £35 -£50, adaptor cost around £30 from memory.

Make your own adaptor from here

Hi,
Been using a Waste Hogg (45l) since we got our 5er (9 years). They have wheels so just take it to nearest on site dump. I've attached a broad strap if I have to lift it but of coarse
then only half fill. Empty every week depending on use but if you use the shower or use a portable washing machine (as we do sometimes) a lot, expect a few trips, not least re-filling the fresh tank. the joys of living in a 5er!

View attachment 238305 Here’s a photo of my set up. I’ve now hard wired the 12v supply to al switch.

This set up is good------ but------ with a macerator such big diamater hose is not necessary, a 3/4--1" hose will work well-------- but not with normal ''hose-lock' type connections as they are too restrictive I think, I use the American screw joins, no restriction. The type of joint in the picture is good for lay-flat hose, but again 1" is sufficient in my opinion.

I’m dropping 500+ Litre the larger hose moves it rapidly, when I’m at a Waste Point I like to get it done quickly and efficiently.Reducing the outlet as fitted to my MH by 60%ish wouldn’t be recommend.
