New to motorhomes 2019
Just had renewal through from Comfort with some changes to the Aviva policy including or clarifying glass cover, green card and territorial limits amongst other things.

Cover for this section is unlimited provided the windscreen is replaced by Aviva's preferred supplier. A maximum limit of £3000 in any one glass claim applies to all other windscreen replacement providers

The wording has been amended to include Aviva’s preferred suppliers and the inclusion of a perspex sunroof. The wording now reads:

If you are only claiming for loss of or damage to the glass in your motorhome’s windscreen, sunroof (glass or perspex) or windows, or for any scratching of the bodywork arising solely from the breakage of glass, the excesses shown above in this section will not apply. You will, however, have to pay the first £75 of the cost of glass replacement. This excess for glass:

  • overrides any other general excess that would otherwise apply to glass claims.
  • will not apply when the glass is repaired rather than replaced

Green card
Reference to green card has changed throughout. The UK is no longer part of the European Union and you will need a Green Card for travel within the territorial limits, other than Great Britain, Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man

Section X – Continental use
Non-standard countries - The following wording has been removed as cover can no longer be extended into countries outside the territorial limits.

For travel outside the territorial limits, we may be prepared to extend cover to certain places

by request, in which case we will provide you with a Green Card and an additional premium will be required.'

Territorial Limits

There is a change to the Territorial Limits with the addition of Bosnia and Herzegovina

Government behind the times then?

Did my renewal with Comfort just before we went away and I queried it with Comfort. You only need to get a green card if towing a trailer.
Is that with AVIVA?

i checked and had same result as Lenny HB , however, my new Comfort certificate already has the green card bit printed on the reverse.

Im with AiB, they confirmed by phone that it's not a requirement. However, being a belt and braces type I have been printing my certificate on green paper for years now, just in case I ever get inspected by a foreign jobsworth.....

The UK is part of the Green Card Free Circulation Area (GCFCA), which comprises all 30 European Economic Area (EEA) countries as well as Andorra, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Montenegro, Serbia and Switzerland. UK-based drivers do not need to carry green cards for their vehicles when travelling to these countries; some GCFCA countries may however require proof of registration for trailers or caravans.

Whilst there is no charge applicable for issuing a green card, insurers may charge an administration fee to cover their internal costs. If cover is increased at the same time the green card is issued, the insurer is entitled to make a charge for the extension of cover. The provision of this additional cover is at the discretion of the individual insurer.

Full details of the scope of the Green Card System can be found on the Council of Bureaux website, which includes an interactive map of the countries in the system.

Check if you need to register a trailer before towing it abroad

You must register commercial trailers over 750kg gross weight and all trailers over 3,500kg gross weight before towing them through some European countries.

I think the green card is only required for Trailers that need to be registered eg. Commercial over 750 Kg gross or non commercial over 3500 kg gross as they have separate registration plates to the towing vehicle.
Most of us that tow will be under 3500 kg gross for the trailer?

What I always do when travelling to the UK. Green card recognised everywhere.
