Do any of the Italy-Greece ferries offer a flexible(open ended return?
Thinking this autumn maybe.

Blue line or blue star ferries does. Google anek and minoan lines - you may have to ring them to ask.

Thanks for the helpful replies, thinking of an autumn trip but don't want a time restriction for our return.

Do you mind me asking how much that costs?

And is it one of those ferries you can sleep in the van on deck?

Thanks!

It says "Deck space so I guess we'll need something soft to settle on! 25 hours.

Looking forward to it. Dover week Saturday.
Will try to post regularly, but find this site very difficult to get photos up compared with Facebook.

That might work where you live but it refuses even a 1.5mb file from sheep country!

So far, Venice-Igoumetsa, Vicos Gorge, Kastoria, Edessa, Pella, Kassandra peninsula, Meteora, Volos Bay, marvellous, plenty of taps, parking and friendliness.
Let's hope the remaining month is as good.

Last there in 2000 but no issue parking and you could do a trip round Venice if you arrived early enough.

Did you sleep in the van, Norman? Are you able to stay in the van during the voyage, heat water, have a shower etc?

Yay! made it to Halkidiki. Greece is wonderful and the people even better. But this site always says my images are too big....so hard luck, no pics.
I nearly aways reduce my images to 1024x768 for uploading them they upload a lot faster.

If you haven't already seen it this was our trip to Greece a couple of years ago it may give you a few ideas, we really enjoyed it.

Have a good trip Norm.

Hi Lenny,
nice to hear from you,
For the first time managed an upload, Greek internet more efficient than Welsh!
Greece at this time of year is like Spain & Portugal was 25 years ago, hardly seen any other campers and perfect for wild hillbillies like us. Love it.
Had our first shower in 3 weeks today (Rain that is).
Sea temp 23 this morning. Just moved down to the Corinth canal near Itea and even passed a ski resort (in cloud) in the high mountains.

Hi Bellabee,
No they wouldn't allow us access to the van on Minoan Lines, locked away like normal ferries. The 25 hours from Venice was long unearthly hour start and pretty boring, although same price we might try and swap the return journey to Anconasince they stopped there for 5 ruddy hours on the way down.

Many thanks for your posts. Greece is on my list of places to go - I'm currently in a soggy Brittany! Should have stayed in Sicily. :)

As @Lenny HB suggested earlier, it makes a lot of sense to resize your images before uploading them. The forum software just resizes them anyway if you upload the full format image so save it the bother, and any data allowance you might have, by resizing them first.

I do all my "holiday" stuff on an Android tablet and the best resizing app I've found so far, after using several, is Photo & Picture Resizer. There are a lot with very similar names so check carefully. This will also handle RAW images, which I use exclusively now but it certainly copes with JPGs which most folk use. I reduce the images to 1600 * 1200 by which time they are about 300Kb in size. The original RAW image could be 10Mb. :)

If you don't use Android you could start a new thread and ask for suggestions. :)

I take pics on my Nikon and use a MacBookPro laptop. We had a graphics business before retirement and until now have even reduced files to below 1meg in Photoshop before uploading and still constantly got image too big messages, so gave up. the above was the first success. Here's the 2nd. Had to reduce to 600k.

I'm confused, this image is 1.35 Mb and it uploads without any problems.

LRM_EXPORT_20171024_164636.jpg

This one is 2.95Mb, again no oversize warnings.

IMG_20170929_080528.jpg

How are you posting the images? I just click on the "Upload a File" button then navigate to the image.

However, there's no point in uploading big image files as the Forum software is going to shrink it anyway. I normally resize to 1600 by 1200 pixels. This generally makes for a quick upload and uses less of any data allowance on my sim card.

Done all that mate. Usually it just tells me that it can't upload images larger than 10 Mb even if they're smaller than that. Maybe it works more efficiently with phones. by the way I bet my wine tastes better than that tea!!!!

Then I'm stuck for a solution. :(
I just use an Android tablet when away from home as I am now. The resizing app copies the image file from the camera (I use RAW format) and converts it to a reduced size JPG of around 1Mb which is stored on the tablet. On the current trip I'm tweaking the images in what was called Adobe Lightroom Mobile at the start of the trip but an upgrade a week or so ago changed it to Adobe Lightroom CC. A year ago Lightroom Mobile wasn't much use but it has had some major upgrades recently. It runs by all accounts much better on an Apple device but if you have a laptop you should be able to run the full version. I find it quicker to use than Photoshop if all you want to do is give images a bit of punch.

A few times when I've posted from my phone I've had "cannot upload file " usually with a full size image. Have occasionally had it on the PC with a reduced image, them I have gone to the original image done another reduction and its uploaded. I normally use 1024x768 give a file size of 200-300k.

Could be worth logging onto another network perhaps the phone network is restricting the uploads.
