BEWARE fellow motorhome owners over 3500 kg . Bought my motorhome in 2012 , which weighs in at 4005 kg, at the same time when the London emission charge was brought in, we were blissfully unaware that we were liable to the charges. Went into London many times over 9 years without any problems then suddenly received a fine of £500.00 this morning, obviously there are 2 ways one can look at this, first what a lucky so and so that I have got away with it for so long, second why after 9 years do they feel it necessary to put their hands deeply into a retired blue badge owner pockets. Spitting feathers!!!

Try and skew your thoughts back to your first concept and phone up pleading insanity/blue badge/unaware and you may get some or all knocked off the bill.

I'd be checking it is genuine.
9 years is a long time without some kind of correspondence from TfL and £500 a curiously round figure

Check your reg out on TFL. It may be the ULEZ and not the LEZ that you have been charged for.

I've just had a look and the emission standards have changed. It does say your vehicle may have been compliant before but isn't now. I would ring up and see what they say. Personally I hope you get let off but I doubt it.

I went into Dagenham a couple of years ago, got a letter a few days later from THEM, didn’t get fined but they told me £200.00 a day fine if I do it again 😡🤬 as ours is 4600 Kg, to get a cat to cure it up to £7000.00, just don’t go into London in the Moho

Rummage on here.Looks to be ULEZ as unless registered as 'disabled' vehicle with no ved payable you aren't exempt

Went into London a few months ago with work commitments in a hired Transit van due to the load.
Not knowing the route required we followed the satnav and set it to avoid the LEZ and ended up going past Battersea Power Station, Old Kent Road into Kensington & Chelsea, through tunnels, over bridges etc. Twickenham etc etc. Crawled around for hours.
Every set of lights had box cameras, we pulled up to buy a sandwich and discovered later that even it had cameras watching the layby and expecting you to buy parking.
I commented at the time that it would be a miracle if we escaped without a fine.
Over a month passed before, sure enough, £60 fine for going through the Rotherhithe Tunnel in commercial vehicle.
We are revaluating all the jobs now in the London area and having to had a premium for these unavoidable costs.

Just talking to my mate as he changed jobs because he didn’t want to buy a new motor at his age to go into the emissions zone. He said he was going to work locally, walk to work get fit, not use the car as his bit for the environment, it’s only 8 minutes walk from his front door. I said how is it going. He now drives to work. He said they had him on afternoon shift and walking home at 1.30 in the morning with all the street lights switched off , he thought what am I doing at my age I don’t want to get mugged so now driving to work. Haha. To be fair I don’t blame him.

That fine is because your engine dont meet the emissions standard.

I never knew of this and work in London (pre COVID),

To be fair to TFL, they have been screwed over by the current government, who expect them to pay back their debts as though the pandemic never happened.

Like most cities they had a 90% drop in revenue a year ago, and it's currently 'down' to 30% of nomal.
It will be at least 2 years before they find out what the new normal is, but whatever it is, it will be less than before.
The Government however want it's pound of flesh., rather than providing a public service

Let's be even fairer. These fines were the norm from the outset of lez.
The ulez was introduced on the back of a "referendum" of registered TFL users who voted 51/49% for it . Most of whom are 🚲 and pedestrians?
A total vote of less than 60,000 people out of 8million Londoners.
On the basis of having scammed that one through they used it as there right to make the lez emissions stricter.

I thought Khan should provide the service ?
The Mayor of London does not have the right to tax.
If he did, then London would be like Singapore.
However the rest of the UK would then suffer.
Remember the South East generates more tax on it's own than the rest of UK combined.

It's in the Governments own interest to provide major services for London, however they don't like having Labour Mayor in a major political position, hence they now have him over a barrel, which is where they want to keep him.

We can no longer take our car into the centre of Glasgow because of her age.
Her emissions meet that of newer cars when she in normal economy mode, we rarely if ever use sport mode and she doesn't need it, she has enough horses without it.
How does this 'One size fits all' work.
Another thing is that if we wanted to our car could carry seven people, but a teeny puddle jumper can go in carrying one or two people and a bag of shopping.
I am not against small cars, they do have their place and are easier in a city environment because of their size, but just because a car is large it does not mean it is bad.

Bristol bath are all following suit

Looks like we will all be taking riding lessons in the not to distant future, as horses will become the new form of transport

Not a problem, Horses, like bicycles and pedestrians have a 'right' to use the road.
(Vehicles need an annual licence, and have do not 'right' to use the public highway)

However bring along a few bin liners and a shovel and most urban areas have strict bylaws governing animals fouling in public areas !
