Hi anyone know anywhere cheap but good for kids or somewhere to wild camp within an hours drive of gateshead, My wife is doing the great north run.

car park near marsden grotto we have stayed over night before and lovely sea views also we stayed opposite morrisons seaburn for air show on main road also excellent views if getting fish n chips at seaburn minchellas are best we go regularly

dont try to stay overnight in the car park next to souter lighthouse have been moved on from it as it is national trust and they won t let any one stay overnight

There is a site at Marsden, South Shields not far from the end of the run (on Lizard Lane I think), its basic and reasonably priced. Good for the kids as the beach is on the other side of the road. There is a another site facing the amusements beside Bents Park, also at Shields. The site at Rowlands Gill just o/side of Gateshead looks okay also, its mostly used by visitors to Gibside. (country walks birdwatching Red Kites)

travel north on A1m. Just past Washington Services bear right on to A194m that takes you in to South Shields. Ignore any slip road exits and after a mile or so you will come to the first roundabout - White Mare Pool. Stay in middle lane to continue ahead. As you go under the A184 you will see a Little Chef type of place then a Shell garage. Come off the A194m as if going in to the garage but go passed for about 50m. There is a left turn there which leads in to an old road. You could try there but get in early as it is sometimes used by television O/B crew. Only trouble would be that once you are in you cannot get out until after the race, usually about 2pm, as the race passes by this point.
PS. Shell garage is about the cheapest in area for Fuel.

Failing that there is a lay-by On the A182 below Penshaw Monument, just off A19. You should be alright there.

Just for future reference there is a great big park by the finish in southshieldds owned by the council.
