They are at it again in my area.

Spreading a little tar on the roads then scattering gravel - then expecting motorists to roller it in!

They stick up signs saying "Slow - Skid Risk" You bet it's a skid risk, especially for bikes.

I thought the Highways Authority had a duty to minimise road hazards, not deliberately increase them.

Wonder if anyone has successfully sued a HA after coming off.?

Why can't they roller it in?

I think they will argue they have minimised the risk with the slow signs and usually a 20 mph limit around us, not sure a roller would have the compliance to roll a light skim of gravel onto a bit of tar, still a rubbish way to do roads though.

They did a road behind us last week and they did roll it in using a sort of roller but equipped with a couple of dozen truck tyres. Seems to have worked except for the tar running down the side of the road.

It's just dressing. It covers up the patches and improves grip for a while, but if the surface underneath was crumbling, it won't last long.

Done the same here, and have caused sone major crashes due to it. Their response apparently was something along the lines of “ would have been safe at 20mph”. That’s not what the dad of the young girl thought, after picking her up from the scene of her overturned car.

Then to top it off the 20mph signs are still there, months, and months later.

A lady was killed near here a few years ago when her car left the road and crashed into a petrol station. The council soon recovered the road properly after first doing a quick bodged job as described above. Locals had described the road after the first cheap and nasty attempt to recover as "like driving on ice" and several complained, but it took the fatality for them to do the job how it should have been done in the first place.
