many many years! since I was a kid
After a month in the garage, I finally collected my van this afternoon. After changing the clutch, slave cylinder and bearing, they also spent hours flushing the pipework. The old fluid was like treacle and there was no sign of this at the master cylinder

Mind you, it reminded me why I usually do my own repairs. £40 under £2k was the final bill

Sorry to hear that news TheBig1 , got to ask why a month in the garage? Was the Clutch Kit that hard to find?
These Garages have us by the Short & Curly's for sure!
Happy Travels.

I know nothing about the mechanics of the servicing but was the time spent related to you doing your own historic maintenence or some other factor such as faulty parts? Not meant in any way as a criticism of your work by the way!

The month is apparently due to too many vehicles waiting to be fixed. The garage have the local ambulance contract too and these take priority, as do most other vehicles

First week nothing done
Second week they looked for fault and found no fluid in the clutch system, then it would not bleed as blocked. No sign of a leak, so flushed and refilled
Third week the gearbox came out to replace the clutch slave cylinder. Foolish not to change the clutch as it's out anyway
Week 4 it was waiting for time on the ramp as the air suspension kept going down when on test drive
Yesterday a more experienced mechanic took a look and within 5 minutes realised that as it was reassembled, the air valve/sensor was not reinstalled correctly, when they removed the wheel and driveshaft to get gearbox out

Hardly inspires confidence with a fiat professional garage

Why the hell does air suspension come into the mix ?
Sorry mate, but I need more info.:banghead:
I must be missing something.

To take out the gearbox on the ducato, you take the front nearside wheel off and dismantle the suspension leg to remove the nearside driveshaft. That allows removal of the gearbox.

On normal suspension it is pretty much self supporting, but with full air suspension apparently they felt the need to disconnect more including the sensor/valve
