No good if you have an electric retractable step though as it won't be able to slide back into the casing if its too thick!

Mel ours is an electric retractable step and we have had it on for the past 3 years, held in place with cable ties, think they help with safety on the step 100%.

Ordered one on eBay, looks identical to the Fiamma with the spring fixing, nice grey colour only £6.85. Didn't think about checking clearance until mentioned on here. Phew! about 25mm above step when retracted.

Not on our step as it stops it from retracting.
We did however have astroturf on the front garden at our last house on top of hard core so we could reverse our 5t MH on to it without making the lawn sink.
We use a nice 1m sq leftover piece next to the step to allow us to wipe feet before entering. Give it a shake, roll it up and sling it in the garage when we move on.
Great stuff as long as you get quality and not the stuff greengrocers use on their shelves.

I use a large thick floor cloth ( like you find in French supermarkets ) Have attached tapes with the quick release clips you find on rucksacks . Easy to wash and easy to store if you don't need :)

You can fit the Fiamma version since that is not as thick as real Astroturf. As I stated above, I have had these covers on my steps for a few years (Omnistep twin-step retracting). There is plenty of clearance - in fact there might be sufficient to fit Astroturf if I wanted to.
Thank you @JeanLuc , Gary

I've got some stick on 'sandpaper' type grit strips on ours Accent and our Globecar, about an inch wide and long enough to go from each end of the step, this stops it being slippery - I had expected to have to replace them on the Accent but they were still well stuck when we px'd it nearly 3 years later!

If I put astro turf type stuff on our step the dogs would have a hissy fit - as Romy needs to use it now to get in (she's getting on a bit) I wouldn't fancy her trying to get in without it and breaking a leg or something!
