At Sutton on Sea we have a really good traditional butcher, and he introduced me to Lincolnshire Haslet. I think I did have it as a kid once, but this stuff is a delight. Sliced thinly it goes well with a meat platter, or in sarnies. Our fridge now always has a lump of it within, though not for long!

The size is bigger than a cricket ball and they cost £3 each. It's a family recipe but essentially it is a special mix of herbs and sausage-meat baked in their own ovens.

If you'd like me to bring you an individually wrapped Haslet to Lincoln then shout up here and I'll get him to bake some special. (y)

Haslet is a Midlands meat not just from Lincolnshire - - - and its a nicely spiced mixture great for sandwiches especially with cheese and pickles

Eat it a lot when home in Derbyshire

Possibly less appealing when originally known as Hastilles - Old French for entrails

Love it ! But then again I also love spam, corned beef (tinned, none of your deli counter sliced rubbish) and of course FBP :notworthy2:

Unfortunately not going to Lincoln @Jim but would definitely have my order if I was!

Did you're mum or gran use to fry it for you? mine did I love it :D
No, didn't get to taste spam fritters until much later in life. Probably just as well as I would have lived on them once discovered :D

Spam was always something in sarnies with mustard, and probably still the most frequently way of scoffing it in our house

The other Lincolnshire classic that they do at the butchers is Chine. I am not a fan of it myself, but apparently served cold with vinegar is it lovely.

My favourite from that butchers though is their Pork Faggots. Mmmmm... Not a Lincolnshire classic though.
They also do a lovely Beef Sandwich spread (not really a pate I don't think?)

But the key question is how do you pronounce it? My North Lincolnshire relatives say it like 'hacelet' whereas my Derbyshire/Yorkshire ones say it like 'hazlet'.

Lincoln for me is always a last minute decision after viewing the weather forecast!. Haslet or "Azlet" as we pronounce it!. Is well known local to us, along with PROPER Black pudding.

Jim

Welcome to Lincolnshire, home of the best Haslet, meat and potato pies and Lincolnshire sausage.

Being a yellow belly I was brought up on the stuff, absolutely love it.
