So many of you funsters go away to Spain and Portugal for the winter. I really envy you but worry about leaving our house to the mercy of the UK weather. We've already had a basinful of it this year during the last few days. We don't have the benefit of having family nearby to keep an eye on the place and are reluctant to ask friends and neighbours to take that responsibility. Many of you must have the same problem but clearly manage to overcome it in your own ways. So I'm interested in finding out what you do and I suppose that I am looking for reassurance as well.

We have a Cat-sitter (paid) to call in every other day.
This, by the way, did not prevent our cat breaking it's leg the day we got back but it did allow us to have reports and check-up visits on a frequent basis.
You could also look back over the last 20 years and see how often a household emergency cropped up due to the UK winter.

@tansea ever thought of house sitters, plenty of us out there, many with good references.

We'd love to offer but just of to portugal ourselves
