On and off for many years.
Fancy a go? I saw this in our Scottish Paddler magazine.

http://www.gocanoeingweek.org.uk/take-part/starter-sessions

At the moment the sessions are England-centric (the site is being updated though so I'm hoping for more places to organise something) but if you've ever wanted to try a kayak or canoe this could be your chance. Lots of the sessions are FREE!!!!!!!!!!

Our plan at the moment is to do the session at Amble and it would be fun to have a paddle-meet there.

I would have to investigate parking / campsites :)

It sounds marvelous until I read where you envisage this happening...... that is the Blinkin' NORTH SEA!

Does it ever thaw up there?

I will be wearing a drysuit @Popeye

When white water rafting in Norway (glacier melt) I was the one who went swimming and came up dry and still warm :)

There are sessions in lots of places so have a look and see if there is something near you.

I did the Devizes to Westminster canoe race almost 50 Years ago came in eighth overall. We used a K16 two hander and my partner in Crime was a guy called Steve Crosby (Bing to his mates) and he also held a A.B.A. Boxing title at the time. He was tough, and I was superfit at the time, undergoing training in the Met.

Kept both of my canoes up until 2001, couldn't give them away in the end.

This is probably the nearest "real" campsite:

but if there is enough interest I can contact people to find out about overnighting on carparks etc.

Thanks Puddleduck - I've emailed the organiser to show our interest for the Amble event in June.
Hope they still have some spaces free

You don't have to book a place which is the beauty of the event for me - and I have not yet contacted them but I will.

I intend to take my own boat :) and we might need to take both car and motorhome as we can only get one boat in the motorhome and I always worry about damage because we are trading it in. The new van will have a kayak rack on the top :)
