Whilst looking around the engine bay in my 1994 Peugeot Boxer 2500TD I noticed a cable had become disconnected from a temperature sensor. With it connected the glow plug warning light only shows for a few seconds even when cold. With it disconnected I get (presumably) maximum time, hot or cold. Obviously I suspect this sensor is faulty but before I shell out for this, does anyone know how to test it?

sounds like its been disconnected for that very reason and i think it will be to sense the temp for the glowplugs........you dont need full glow time with a hot motor so this will cut the relay early when hot.

assuming it IS a water temp sensor the only way i know to test is to remove it.....connect an OHM meter to the body and post then immerse the 'bulb' end in cold water.....slowly bring to the boil checking the meter.
no idea what readings you would get but if the reading varies then it should be working.

other option is just replace it anyway....they arent very expensive.
