Get them while you can!

We popped into SMC on the way down South yesterday and to say they are flying off the shelves is an understatement.

'Sold - sold - sold' is all we witnessed on the various windscreens.

I can't see it changing for next year either but then again the availability of Globie vans is very small when compared to the big UK manufacturers.

That said, I've not seen the 2021 price list yet so has anyone got an idea of the cost increases for next year, if any?

Regards to all,

Andrew

I dont have comparative, year on year prices, but being warned by SMC, as the Globecar is predominantly made at Dethleffs in Germany, that any tariffs etc imposed post-Brexit will be passed on the the customer.
Also, I expect 2021 prices to increase because certain of the optional "Packs" are being included as standard. (The UK pack?)

I got a Globecar quote based on 2021 pricing about a month ago and calculated the increase over 2020 was about 2.4%. Note that the percentage increase may vary slightly for a given line item/option due to rounding up or down to the nearest £5. And I too was advised that any post-Brexit tariffs would be passed on :-(

I just read in one of the magazines that Wildax have already resold their entire 2021 production, either for customer orders or dealer stock! And that’s without the October NEC show.

I'm not at all surprised as those Wildax vans are really nice bits of kit.

I was visiting the German Globecar Forum a week ago and the German chaps were saying that a new Pössl van will now take 14-months to deliver as a pre-order due to the current demand in sales.

On a good note it can only be positive for anyone wanting to sell their van privately next year (y)

Hagstrom Favmeister It'll be interesting to see how/if the price schedules change following on from the 1st Jan.

Not long to go now chaps until we're in the know.

Well we have a new Ford Transit Custom van every two years typical cost £4,000 a year we have just enquired about a new one this month quoted cost £6,000 a year so I will just use our car for a while, 2021 will be very interesting to see how new prices are.
I realise this is not a globecar but interesting comparison 👍

Why would they increase in price ,they come from Turkey? Sounds like profiteering to me on back of a nodeal. ¿

Most manufacturers are working on a 2.5% increase vs 2020 models.

Demand, the increase in the number of home delivery and courier services.

i also understand that some dealers have sold their allocation of Sunlight PVC’s for 2021.

Turkey is in a customs union with the EU. Currently there is no duty to pay on imports from Turkey.

Andrew, I’ve got a Mercedes Elara on order, currently in build, so hopefully pick it up mid November. I’m hoping quality is good, I’ve only ever owned IH vans before!

Well I can wait till next year when money is tight for new sales when we will see how keen dealers are to move stuff 🙂

SMMT say that the tariffs imposed on importing a new £60k van from Europe in 2021 in the event of a No Deal Brexit are likely to be in the order of 6.3% of its value - about £3.8k

Ford price increase (custom) is due to added Component cost, not directly tariff
Also 23 week lead time for most Ford vans now and virtually Zero stock, And used / nearly new non existent

We’ve just ordered a new Skoda Fabia for our daughter and if we wanted a factory order they couldn’t guarantee the price as it would come next year, however they told us we would have the choice to pay the extra or cancel the order. We went for one that’s already on its way just in case.

I've been looking at some of the Globie Summit prices today and it looks as if a new 540 will cost more than what a 640 cost 22-months ago, i.e. when we bought ours.

Now that must be good for the residuals of secondhand vans.

Just a quick point about the number of Globecar dealers in the UK.

I've just accessed the Globecar UK site and it's only showing SMC, Highbridge and Highland Campervans as the last remaining Globecar dealers in the UK.

Signature looks to be depleted down to just one unit while Dixons and South West Motorhomes has nothing.

Is it me or has the Globecar network contracted quite significantly (not that it was very big to begin with).

Signature told us they were dropping the Globecar range and expanding their Adria range, when we were negotiating our new Campscout last Autumn. They said they would not be getting any new Globecars in.

Intersting point there about Globecar and Adria

The Globecar dealer map is certainly looking a bit sparse these days with the two lower pins both being Highbridge dealers.

I've been monitoring the PVC and Globecar prices over the last few weeks and it's highly evident that secondhand PVC prices have gone through the roof with the likes of MY2017 basic spec'd 6-meter Globecars going for £44,000 with 10,000+ miles on the clock, I.e. just a few quid less than their new MY21 RRP prices.

There's very little stock coming to the UK this year and next so Nicky and I could be onto a winner if we decided to sell.

A new Summit 640 with our comprehensive spec would be upper £60k's so the big question is how much should I ask?

Any guesses........😎

£45k - new ones cost £50k-ish.

There was a 2017 Campscout 6.4m Manual with 17,000 miles and a Memo Swing Away bike carrier (plus Gaslow?) going early in the year from 4-Front?. They were asking £44k and a bit.

Thanks for the note ;-)

The smaller 540 @ SMC and Highland Campers to my spec would be upper 50's so £45K would be a good deal for someone.

I may go a bit higher.

All the best,

Andrew

Around 50 or late 40s Andrew?

I like that Paul, especially when I add the many mods and additions.

I'm not sure how many £'000s of extras we have added buts it's a lot :-)

All the best mate,

Andrew

Unlike my MY19 Summit, here's a bog standard MY18 Campscout which doesn't even have the Elegance Pack fitted and it sold immediately.

If you’re selling I think you could chance your arm ... there’s obviously demand so I would be a bit cheeky, knowing you can always reduce your price. Good luck!

We bought our Globebus new here in Spain, and were told it was best to order the most bare spec you could as Spain imposes a tax on imports. Then get all the stuff like awning, TV, reversing cam, sound system, etc etc fitted locally to avoid said tax. Strikes me the same wheeze should work on a UK import now?
