Not a great deal to report guys but was is noticeable is that a few of you cheeky Globie folk have been beavering away recently.

All good work(y)

1. I did do a wee bit of wire tidying today. I mistakingly thought that my dealer had internally fitted the rear view camera wires but alas nope - the dealer has simply underslung the wires, without protection, along the length of the van. The only thing I did today was to drop the wires from the chassis and add a full length section of convoluted piping to protect them, before reaffixing to the chassis:

20190330_105412.jpg

2. I also found that the wires were very tightly bound to the metal chassis at the rear corner so if I had left it for say 2-years, (just outside the warranty period), then the wires would have eventually been damaged by the sharp metal of the chassis corner. This is a pic of the rear right corner:
20190330_104308.jpg

3. I also took a moment (2-hours to be precise :D), to thread a new 21A power wire from the CBE solar Reg to the 3rd hab battery via the internal van shell, the toilet housing, and then under the rear bed and into the new 3rd battery station. It still needs pinning down but the new wire runs under the loo mount:
20190327_163801.jpg

4. Here's a pic of the new power/recharge supply which can be seen coming from the side wall, below the near-side window.(Note: The LA95 is mounted on a hard anti-vibration foam base; it's mechanically fixed by rods that are applied over the battery and connect to the two metal fixings seen in the pic:
20190327_161429.jpg

5. I was also going to hard wire the Necvox aerial to the rear of the van but I went off for coffee and never came back:rolleyes:

:D

I'm wondering if anyone has fitted a protective mesh to the front bumper of their Fiat to help protect the various coolers and primary air intercooler from stones and road debris etc.

I am thinking of doing something similiar to what I have on my sporty car (pic below). Has anyone meshed their bumper too date.

Finished off the LED install with a strip pointing to the wall behind the dinette to match the one at the side loading door. They wash the sides down with light adding subtle lighting for night use when you dont want it too bright. I went for a pure white, not cold or warm white and it works well. I cant decide whether to have the switch lit or not yet.
BTW I now know where the 12v wiring is hidden for the dometic strip in the revolution.

Spill the beans then.

Have you tried the lighting you put over the driver and passenger seat yet?
I am about to put a Dometic strip light up there on to match the others in our revolution.
Where did you wire yours into? I've run wires down the door pillar trim and to the electrobloc under the passenger seat. I've just got to work out how to connect the wires to the eloctrobloc now.

The grey/silver corner strip behind the dometic track has 3 screws facing the window, remove with short screwdriver, then the whole corner strip will pull off with the track and you can pull the wood panel out also. The wago connectors are there. Mine were 3 way I changed them to 5 way.

I think you will constantly bang your head on a dometic strip where I put my strip between the cab and hab. It lights the area great, enough light goes both ways. I took a spur off my new 20A circuit that goes straight back to the hab batteries, I added a 800ma fuse. The reason I did this is so you can put lights on from the door without having to turn the EBL on.

@jezport Is there any easy way of telling if the CP+ unit is compatible? I remember seeing somewhere that there was a standard (wiring?) that had to be met but it went over my head at the time! Thanks.

Morning Team,

I have a portable Necvox ANT-536 antenna which I bought on recommendation from John @Neckender. It's a fantatsic bit of kit (well done John (y)), but I was wondering if anyone has hard wired it to the roof.

I'm home for 3-days so I took the opportunity to hardwire the Necvox aerial since the weather was so nice. Here is the finished result:

The process:

1. Remove the upper rear brake light as you'll need some rear access behind the camera feeds to pull through the Necvox wire:
20190405_091402.jpg

2. Remove the camera units but not the mount. This was easier than expected because my dealer had not fully sealed the hole in the body when they had previously fitted the reverse camera units. Thankfully there was no water ingress but the area at the end of the screwdriver is the position of the hole:
20190405_093633.jpg

3. Thread the wire through the upper body and along the groove which lies directly behind the upper door rubber:
20190405_102615.jpg

4. Once the top wires are fixed then affix the cameras to the their mount and inject the hole to ensure a watertight seal. (I've really gone to town on sealing the open apperture with sealent):
20190405_115351.jpg

5. Thread the wire down the OSR rear door pillar (remove the door rubber first) and then thread the wire behind the water tank compartment:
20190405_104711.jpg

6. The wire goes under the plastic trim, next to the water tank, before passing through the wood partition into the wardrobe via a 5mm drilled hole. You can see the single 12v power supply in the corner which I intend to replace with a single socket and aerial plug so that the power and aerial points are co-located:
20190405_120623.jpg

7. I'm aiming for the corner of the wardrobe so you can see how little wire I had remaining. I will add trunking to the wire once I have fitted the new power & aerial socket:
20190405_120707.jpg

8. Quite a discreet fit:

Now she's cute Mel (y) I'll soon be able to tell you if the aerial waggles when we're travelling at speed.

It also looks like a specialist tracker aerial so it may keep the thieves away :D

Hopefully solar and a rear camera if I can work out the connection the the factory cable next.

The collapsible washing up bowl - and some other gear - is available at Aldi this week. Mine fits into the sink but the cover will not close over it.

Nice one Jez ... might have to do similar in my camper as our dogs sometimes slip on our step so wee have to put a removable mat on but it's a pain having to store it when it gets wet.

How did you secure it?

At the moment its not fixed but doesnt seem to slip, not had chance to test out fully yet. I have slipped on the step in the past also.

Ah, so I take it you'd have to remove it if you want to drive off? I assumed it was meant to stay in place even when retracted, that's what I'm after. I'll have to have a shuftie at mine and see what the gap is for it to 'slot' back into.

Just a few little jobs recently:

Firstly, I did a practice removal of the front Fiat grills the other day as I want to mesh the three grill appertures as previously mentioned. I had to take the lights out but it's quite a simple job so once I've got the mesh ordered then I'll post up the finished results.

Secondly, I finally completed the Necvox aerial install. I've changed the 12v power supply in the locker (which I fitted recently) to a joint 12v & aerial coax unit - and it all works too :D:
20190415_152644.jpg

2. I've test fitted a 19" 12v TV into the top counter apperture which lies just above the fridge and I'll soon make that a permanent fixture for travelling. We'll be able to turn the TV to the dining area or to the direction of the beds so that should be quite useful:
20190415_154704.jpg

3. If I recall correctly it was Mel @Minxy Girl that mentioned the point about how much heat entered the overhead lockers through the plastic trim (pic below), so I've insulated all of the upper cupboard plastics and what a huge difference it makes to the thermal properties of the upper part of the van:
20190416_104806.jpg

4. Firstly, I tested the depth of the apperture by using long pieces of insulation to see how far behind the plastic I could penetrate. It just so happens that with a careful bit of manouvering you can insulate the entire plastic trim area which covers the back of the cupboard. Here's a piece prior to it being fitted:
20190416_104907.jpg

5. I then prised back the plastic trim and shuffled the trim behind it ensuring not to crumple it as it was being pushed behind the trim. I also took the time to measure the insulation so that I had sufficient left over to cover the small 2-inch wide ceiling material too. The insulation fits right next to the wood trim:
20190416_105650.jpg

6. A pic of the finished insulation job:
20190416_110558.jpg

7. I then went on to complete all of the cupboards including the front standalone unit, albeit the front cupboard lining required the removal of a couple of screws:
20190416_120234.jpg

8. The whole van is now done and complete but from a 10m × 1m roll of insulation this is all that remains. That was £19.99 well spent (y):
20190416_120347.jpg

I've enjoyed doing it but I'm pleased it's finished. ;)

Not really a mod as such but I was wondering what you guys do with your ramps. We have the Millenco Quattro 4's which we stored in the huge garage of the Pilote but they are no good to us now so I've invested in the mini Millencos (3-inch high).

I've come up with this idea for now (see pic below) but I was thinking of modifying the back door trims so that they hold the mini ramps, wheel chocks and the EHU lead.

In my case the ramps are secured by the black sponge mount which is stuck to the door.

What do you guys do with your ramps.

Cheers,

Andrew
