Getting Insurance to Register in the UK (1 Viewer)

Hmmmm...... Interesting situation I've just discovered and maybe one of you will have a nugget of information to assist my new-found plight?

I'm trying to insure Udo, my recently imported RMB, prior to kicking off the UK registration process.

I gather UK insurance is required to gain registration. I have the MOT, obviously.

So I called a well known company and all was very well, until I explained this important fact. And then I was told no insurance until registered. Not even on the chassis number. Oops.oh:

So can anyone advise how I move forward?

No V5 without UK insurance. No insurance without a V5.

Safeguard insurance will insure for 30 days on a VIN number, no problems.

All insurance companies should insure on the VIN number - they may not have understood if you asked for insurance on the chassis number. Beware though while it is on a VIN number your vehicle will not appear on MIT so to a police car following you will appear to be uninsured and need to prove you are in fact insured - expect them to contact the insurers for confirmation if stopped.

Yes, I did mention the chassis number / VIN and was told that Aviva (Comfort) have recently stopped doing insuring this way, even temporarily.

Have insured imports with VIN numbers in the past with Adrian Flux and Saga, both sending cover notes immediately. When you have the registration docs, just ring them and they will send the full policy. Worth a thought, Adrian Flux will give an agreed valuation on production of photos. Extremely important with an older quality van.
