Have spent last 6 weeks touring South of France and Northern Spain (chasing better weather). Have only experienced two wet days in that time. Currently in Italy and heading towards Bari and a ferry to the Balkans. Lucky with weather so far and very impressed with the way France, Spain and Italy are trying to manage Covid. They put the UK to shame.

It depends on the weather and where you want to be in Spain.
I tend to use tonka's Western route going down, (Dec/Jan), and the Eastern route coming back, (Mar/Apr).
At this time of year, the Eastern route down to Montpellier and beyond should be good weather wise. We prefer to avoid French tolls routes where possible. Both are available in resources.

Cheers,

Jock. :)

As title says which is my thinking right now
Im in Vianden Luxembourg and will be here or in the area for another week

Plan was to go to the Mosel but weather has turned and its still busy

Im temped to do a month in Spain

Mad or what

Happy to consider other options go a month or more to burn

Mmmm
Wish weā€™d stayed in Spain, but tried to minimise the Q by touring up through Germany.

Been rained and even snowed on now for 4 days, woke up to torrential rain again this am in Ludwigsburg.

Heading to Rothengen shortly, then Wuzburg tomorrow and finally Aachen to find a vet and the dreary drive to UK!

Fantastic trip ending in a damp squib! Family matters pressing in UK or Iā€™d be on my way south again.

On 3rd van so not a total newbie....
We're currently at montmedy close to Luxembourg heading for the Moselle, since leaving we've had howling gales (mainly behind us pushing us along!) now heavy rain, have only got 2 weeks so need to avoid anywhere requiring quarantine on return, so will just have to put up with rain in Germany.

Totally depends where you live in the UK and where you are in Spain.
Heading to our home in Javea from Manchester.

I was driving through Wythenshawe on Thursday. Saw around a dozen trams. About 50% were not wearing masks. On one tram, not one person had a mask on.

currently on the coast with grandchildren and the dog, if you can spot him.

Regarding travelling in Europe at the moment what insurance cover are you using and is it valid if the FCO advises against all but essential travel.

Having discussed the matter with my insurers NFU, and reading the same discussion matter from others, it's only travel insurance that may be null and void, should you travel against the FCO's advice for particular countries.
The only concern re motor vehicle insurance, was that due to Covid measures in some countries, any breakdown or recovery assistance may be greatly affected. :(

HTH,

Jock. :)

Unfortunately there are a large number of those in the UK that do not want to comply or understand the importance (some on this forum no doubt). Eventually it might filter through but blimey it takes some an awful long time for some to clock it.

We spent most of the summer in S.Brittany, travelled down to Tavira arriving 2 weeks ago after a short tour of central Spain, felt perfectly safe everywhere.....because we take sensible precautions and look to our own personal safety.

If you like to drink in bars etc and otherwise socialise with strangers then you will be at risk wherever you are, personal safety is a personal responsibilty.

Vehicle insurance is unaffected....I'm with Safeguard and phoned and checked.... as for health insurance we have just taken a policy with Staysure.....they will (for a very small additional fee) give cover even for countries the FCO advise against travelling to...the only caveat to that is they wont cover for what the FCO advice is in relation to...ie Covid.....but they will cover for everything else....plus they will cover for trips up to 100 days which again is great im my opinion..

Will be hopping over the Pyrenees later this week.
Plenty of snow in the Pyrenees this weekend, some passed had to be closed, but all seem to be cleared and open now. Came over the pass at Bacqueria near Viella Friday in the van, was very tricky with 4/5 cm of snow covering the road and -2Ā°!! A bit early for September!!
