Ok we are dedicated to France for motorhoming but this last couple of days we have been stuck in Germany with a broken window.
We were heading down to Italy and went planning on stopping much but this little town, braubach, in Germany where we have been laid up for a couple of days waiting for auto glass to fix us up has opened our eyes to what we were missing.
Friendly people cheap prices and we have just had as much steak and pork and wine that we could stomach for 50 euros in a typical bavirien pub.
All excellent and we would have just drove past without a clue if it hadn't been for a broken window.
Oh yeah we are on an aire beside the Rhine for 10 euros a night all in.
Fantastic(y)(y):)

We found Germany and the Moselle in particular, six years ago almost by accident! What a delight, we are there now, we try to come twice a year. Cheap as chips, makes France look mega expensive. We did France for almost 30 years now NEVER AGAIN, unless on the way through to Germany! Try it!!

many many years! since I was a kid
it is a truly lovely part of the world, but be aware the germans have a way of getting inside your brain. once you have experienced it, you will feel the need to return for more brainwashing

Don't leave the area without taking in Boppard and Sankt Goar. Best bit of the Rhein 'till you get to the falls.

Bavaria is great, on our last visit we went on the Jennerbahn Cable Car up a mountain after visiting the eagles nest and taking a boat on Lake Konigsee.

Have to agree with you there chaser, we are in germany too and as its our first visit here we are a little took back at how nice germany really is, we were on an aire on the mosel, 10euros per night with electric included, stunning views, scenery awsome, lovely an peaceful, a little supermarket right off the aire, who needs a campsite for £35 per night ... have been in a few supermarkets here now and notice they have machines that pay you cash when you recycle plastic or glass bottles, think we could learn a few things off these germans lol

We stayed at the Rupertus Therme spa aire in the nice spa town of Bad Reichenhall in Bavaria, which was a good central base. Lovely spot, the spa give you a discount book to get discounts on buses and free local buses. You can also use their spa and swimming pools at a discounted rate. We also took the regular bus to Salzburg from here as well as going down to Berchesgarden/Konigsee etc on the bus.
There are also free MH aire spaces ( no facilities) in the public car park next to the spa.

The only thing we think could be improved in Germany is the food.

And maybe the wine.

Beer is good though !

Did you go in the van?
We went to the Munich Octoberfest in our van 2 years ago. Great set up, booked on line through the website. Short walk to the "metro" which takes you to the heart of the city
Great experience

For two pins, if we hadn't planned on going to Venice I would be quite happy to stay in Germany a week or two.
If we are blessed with more trips it's going to be on the list pike:D2

We love Germany, particularly the south. We go almost every year. Just got back from spending a couple of weeks there. Stayed at some great aires, cheap, clean, friendly people, lovely towns and villages, scenery ..... I could go on and on.
It's a great way of life in Germany - and this year, in particular, we noticed how much cheaper an Aldi shop is there compared to the UK.

We too are in Germany ( Mosel) for the first time and like others have been surprised at the cost of things ( cheap) compared to UK and particularly France!
We had two large coffees and two lovely cakes from a very fancy bakery right in the Rhine in Lahnstein and got changes out of 5 Euros. You can imagine how much that woukd have been in good old France!
As Zepp says, pity about the weather!

First time for us this year, had 5 nights on the way south and will definitely be back.
Like was previously mentioned.........cheap as chips.
We stopped at Waldshut for the last night, on the Rhine in a fantastic aire for €10 night and a fabulous steak house up the road
Lake Schluchsee is a must, also with a fantastic aire.

Know what you mean, they don't have a word for vegetarians (or vegans) in the language.
Years ago I took a rookie driver with me on a week trip to Germany - he was vegetarian and the poor guy almost starved!
