Just got this email from Tom Tom

LAW IN EFFECT STARTED 27 APRIL 2020
Germany outlaws speed camera alerts
The new Road Traffic Regulation in Germany prohibits the use of devices that alert users to the locations of fixed and mobile speed camera locations.
We recommend that you disable speed camera alerts before and while driving in Germany.
You can, however, reactivate these alerts for travel outside Germany.

I believe (but can't recall the source of my belief) that Garmin's 'proximity alert' warning which alerts to fixed speed cameras only, is lawful in Germany and other countries where radar alerting sensors are prohibited. I stand to be corrected. ?

Why do you need an alert, large box on a pole or even a previous speed limit sign should because enough.

A couple of German speed cameras so you get the idea of what they look like :giggle: and yes I agree about a speed limit sign plus our satnav also indicates the speed limit of the road we are on at the time.

Built into a crash barrier, but it had yellow marking so you know it's there. :giggle:

I have somewhere one of those that detects radar. Completely useless as it also detects automatic doors on shops and those little gadgets on traffic lights. It fails to detect a handheld detector as it only detects it once your speed has been measured.
I must point out that I never deliberately exceed a speed limit, though sudden changes, especially for no obvious reason, can catch me out.

I agree that one should obey speed limits. And to that end, it is useful to have the proximity alerts that sound when you approach a fixed speed camera. It means that for some way before the actual camera you reduce speed even where like us, we have the limit alerts binging each time you exceed the limit so that you can slow down. Overall, I believe that it is an effective way of reducing speed, if that is the objective of limits as opposed to revenue generation.
