We are sitting on the Aire in Gruissan and it appears the German snow birds are leaving Spain and heading home in their droves. Nearly all German registered motorhomes and one night stoppers here. Some big expensive rigs around and lots of trailers.

We are hoping that this means there will be lots of space for us at camperstops and sites when we finally decide to move from here and head South to Spain and Portugal.

They used to have to register in person in Germany to show that they were still alive to get their pension. Not dure if this is still the case

Loads of space in Spain on campsites, aires and camperstops. We've never known it to be so quiet.
We came back into France, yesterday - 2 weeks earlier than we had planned. Lots of Germans and French left before us. We had begun to find it a bit depressing.
We plan to stay around the Med in France for the next couple of weeks.

I'm parked at a place called Cella tonight, it's about 20k north of Teruel. The forecast is for sub zero overnight with light snow in the early hours, temperature not above freezing for most of tomorrow. It's a bit chilly.

I hope you don't get any hassle from the local yobs!!

Hi. Is that a public covered clothes washing facility on the Aire there. We have seen them before in Spain but not very often. It’s on the photos on Google map. We’ve had snow at home today ☹️

That's our forecast for Devon tonight - and we had a flurry of snow today!

teruel has the honour of some of the highest & lowest temps in spain. Although only around 100km from valencia -20ºc is not uncommon in winter.

About 12 years ago my late wife and I were heading South through France to Spain...

in the other direction were MHs one after one, like Lemmings......more than any other traffic................Snowbirds heading home.........

Nothing like that here. There's a sports centre and swimming pool, but no washing machines.

Sorry I cannot copy the photo but it’s not a washing machine. It is a long roofed building with arched open sides and in the centre is a full length water trough with inclined old fashioned ridged washing boards that you rubbed your clothes on with the soap by hand. They look like stone. We have seen them before in Galicia, normally incorporated with a stream, & it was where the village washed their clothes in the very old day. I hope I’ve explained it well enough for you to visualise it 😜 The sports centre is also there on the photos attached to the location

Oh here below I may have managed to copy it? It’s in the more photos showing the inside 😊

We’re hoping to head that way too, just after Easter. Though if the weather is still crappy we’ll follow the sun
Let me know where the constant hot sun is please as we'll check it out for you ... that's if we survive the wind that's trying to flip us over the cliff edge! 😳

Away with you all, go back to your Motherland, give Lidl and Aldi staff a chance to restock, allow some space for others to enjoy the return to Normal Weather here in Spain.....8th April onwards (To be confirmed)......You all look fairly Tanned, but this will turn out to be staining from the Sahara Sand...see you all next year as you pass through Spain en route to Morocco (If the ferry is running and the conflict is over) Been nice seeing you, but don't expect everything to be the same next Autumn...;)

It blew a hooley last night at Gruissan, hardly got any sleep. Looked at the weather and Spain seems no worse so we decided to go for it. Still very windy with the motorhome getting a buffeting on the motorway.

Original idea was to visit the old village of Peratallada, have a good look around, a long lunch and stay on the Aire. Aire was boggy, it was too cold to walk around for long (Angela made it clear that she didn't come to Spain to be cold) and we couldn't find a restaurant we fancied. So decided to move on.

Finally went into Pineda de Mar and stopped in a nothing special campsite. Ate and drank in the warm motorhome. The only thing we liked today is the lack of tolls on the Spanish motorways. Our Spanish tag never beeped once.

Tomorrow we will head further South. We will be aiming for Valencia, a city we have never visited. Probably stay at the camperstop to the North West and travel in by Metro. Any advice on the must see things would be welcomed. Also any nice places for lunch.

Was that the Aire at the back of the car park as I thought that Was fairly sold with a fair bit of gravel.
Could have told you about a nice little restaurant round the back lanes, we didn't fancy any in the main square.

Hope you find the sun soon peterc10 . We were at Béziers last night - windy, but not frighteningly so.
Moved on to Pézenas today. Lovely town and market tomorrow. Still windy and cold, but sunny and better than the wind and rain we had in Spain.
Looks as though the weather in both the south of France and in Spain will improve from Monday. 🤞

If you get stuck for a place to stay, we stopped at Valencia Camper Park, its just outside the centre, literally next door to the train station for trips into centre. The campsite staff are really helpful with tips, they also sell the train tickets, and refund any unused tickets at conclusion of stay.

Well worth a look in Valencia is City of Arts and Sciences, it's quite spectacular to see from the outside, you don't necessarily have to venture inside if it's not your thing, the buildings and water features alone are really impressive.

I'm not surprised that the German folk are rushing home Peter. I would do the same if I was them.

The Germans are in a bit of a tizz at the moment and the first reports of panic buying in German shops came out about the same time you started this thread.

You may be seeing an exodus by the Italians and Austrian folk too.

Did you have a chance to visit the Beziers multiple lock flight? Most entertaining to watch the hire boats from the superiority of one's own boat!
