Hi

Just received a copy of the CoC from the German dealer for the new van we are collecting at the end of the month. Being new to importing I was wondering if anyone whose done this before could advise of anything specific I should be checking on it? Obviously it's all in German. I've asked if we can get a copy in English (as another post somewhere on here suggested) but no luck as yet.

I've checked
TECHNISCH ZULASSIGE GESAMTMASSE IN BELADENEM ZUSTAND/TECHNICALLY ALLOWED TOTAL MASS IN LOAD CONDITION
which is 4430kg on the Hymer part of the document (which is what we are expecting). However on the Mercedes and ALKO documents it's 3880kg. I presume the Hymer one takes precedence?

Most grateful for any assistance!

It might be (hopefully not) that the van is technically suited for 4430kg but delivered rated at 3880kg. If that's the case and you want to be legal at 4430kg, I think (not 100% sure) you can fix that with paperwork to change the rating without any technical change. Since it is not the Mercedes chassis at the rear, it will also depend on what is the technical specificaiton of the Al-Ko part.

By the way, I am awaiting delivery of a Sprinter-based van as well. Can you check on the Mercedes part what tire sizes are mentioned?

Hymer will supply an English copy for €200.
Don't know why you would need one it's all pretty obvious.
The Hymer one is the only relevant one whatever you do don't send the Merc one to the VCA as that will have co2 emissions on it and it will then cost you a fortune in luxury vehicle tax.

Relavant lines, Mass in running order is basically the design weight.
Technical Mass in running order is the MIRO if left the factory at with factory fitted extras.

And check there is no CO2 emissions on it.

Hopefully if I specify 4430kg on the UK registration I'll be legal at that.

I have got the optional 16inch alloys on mine so that may different to what you have specified?

Hope that helps, let me know if you need any further information.

Good point about the Merc CoC Lenny, I was wondering which CoC/s to send to VCA so now I know, thanks. We're Euro 6C so hopefully dodge the luxury tax anyway but I won't specify the co2 regardless.

Regarding the weights there is an entry on the V55/4 field 24 labelled Revenue Weight (kg). Is this the same as MAM?

Also in the accompanying notes it says:
'You do not need to give the weight if the vehicle is a car or light van, or if it weighs 3500kg or less. If your vehicle weighs more than 3500kg, please give the weight and attach a weight certificate.

The vehicle I am importing has a MAM of 4430kg so it looks like I need to fill in this field? What is a 'weight certificate' and where would I get one?

Revenue weight and MAM are the same.
A weight certificate would be a weighbridge certificate.
I've imported 3 new Hymer's never needed it.
Are you looking at the right VCA form?

Oh thanks so much, much appreciated!

It seems all Sprinters come with 16". At Hymer it is the case anyway. You can choose optional alloy but that's it. The size mentioned on your CoC is what I'll have, but having seen Sprinters with 235/75R16, I wondered if both sizes were mentioned on the CoC.

And now I now the minimum load capacity it will need :D2

Thanks Lenny. This is the form I'm using which came in the import pack. The field is number 24 and I've shown the accompanying notes which talk about the 'weight certificate'.

That is just the form for registering you don't need to fill in lots of it.
Before you can register you need the vehicle inspected and a letter saying lights headlights & rear fogs & Speedo comply.

You need to download the form for IVA from the VCA site then send it with the letter & pay £100 to get your IVA. Then you can register the van.

I can further but I'm in Portugal at the moment not back until the end of the month.

Thanks Lenny. Yes I've got the IVA form in hand and garage inspection booked (collecting the motorhome at the end of the month). Just trying to get as much form filling done up front in readiness.

I appreciate some of the V55 is optional but the notes suggest field 24 must be filled if the vehicle is over 3500kg (which mine is) then of course it expects the accompanying weight certificate.

I'm wondering if the reference to weight certificate is for commercial vehicles and not applicable to motorhomes?
