Due to receive new German motorhome in December. I am UK resident and am looking to buy UK insurance. Travel next year mainly European.

The alarm system is a German, Thitronik Wipro 3 system with GPS tracking added. A very good make i understand.

UK insurers, so far, have maintained that any system must be Thatcham approved and SF 6/7 which i believe refers to the tracking.

Comms with Germany is not too easy. Can anyone point me to the German quality standards system so I can advise UK insurers. Thank you in anticipation.

Have you tried asking Thatcham if its approved they hold lists of manufacturers. maybe via thier web pages.

Thanks Phill D yes Thitronik is not listed. A few days ago I called Thitronik but didn't get the promised call back. My German dealer is helpful but is on holiday for a while and time is running out....

then sorry cant help. i guess they are insisting on a thatcham alarm approved system then..

I think you may be stuffed. All British insurance companies rely upon Thatcham because it is owned by the motor insurance industry. If it is not on their approved list they won't accept it. I suspect that this was a factory fit option you should not have gone for.

My answer to the same question was its a German factory fit alarm, like Audi, BMW, Mercedes, they are German high quality. How do you deal with those cars alarms. Answer that will be good.

That's ok, yes so far but I haven't invoked my frustration just yet...I'll wait for my man to return from his holibobs

I'll contact Thatcham again tomorrow and ask about equivalency, if that's a word, if its a no go I may be able to cancel.

You won't get any joy with UK insurers I would cancel those options shouldn't be a problem as the van won't be built until a week or two before delivery.

Sallylillian can I ask how your story ended. We're buying a La Strada and I think they use pretty good products in their builds.
