I was getting a funny smell in my MoHo , turned out to be the battery
it was connected in parallel to the second battery which was fine & cool
it was so hot I couldn’t hold it ,looked like it was ready to burst open
checked charging setting & was correct

i specified it with our new MoHo (now 1 year & 8 month old )

any idea’s what could cause this bearing in mind the other battery is fine

Oooh, that looks nasty, what make is it ?
Suprising it should fail at that age :(

The plates have failed and its cooked itself, I had one do the same in a Hobby. ( about 18 months old as well)

Probably a shorted cell, ours did the same. Fortunately I fitted the Votronic thermistor and it shut down when the battery got hot.

Was it part of a matched pair? Batteries of different types are best not mixed.

Exactly the same batteries ,standard fit by pilote , age / manufacture / type gel the same , NEW MoHo & batteries 18 month ago

Might well be worth talking to the dealer, a gel battery should last longer than 1 year 8 months.

Although it looks like a duff battery there is a slight possibility of a charger fault either solar or mains overcharging so worth checking voltage on the battery still in site. .

Lenny the solar isn’t working as the MoHo is in a shed , it’s mains charge only , it does have a battery monitor fitted as standard although it may be basic ,gives a running input / output when fully charged it floats between 14v & 14.4v aprox , surprisingly the damaged battery is still sitting at 13v
