I had my clutch replaced last week by independent workshop.
Over the weekend I noticed a drip on the drain plug and assumed it was that leaking.
But on further investigation the leak is higher up šŸ˜•
Any ideas what might be the cause ?
I'm awaiting a reply from the workshop.
TIA

So 100% responsibility of workshop ?
Should they replace the seals on fitting clutch.

Yes.
Nothey don't have to replace them but they should ensure they do not damage them when replacing the halfshaft, which is what they have done. So it would not matter if they had fitted new as they have damaged it

Thanks, will they need to drop the gearbox out again or can the seal be replaced insitu ?

Could be oil left from when clutch was done because I would think drive shafts have to be removed.
Best clean off and keep checking

I've wiped it clean once yesterday and drip reappeared today.
I'll keep an eye on it.
Still waiting for reply from the wory

As you have done already, good idea to flag it up early to the garage that there is a new problem arising since clutch work was undertaken.
Lot's of photos. Driveway, or where van is normally parked, as oil free.
Mike.

Sometimes seals look perfect so to avoid extra cost’s they do not change them , alas older ones can leak if disturbed but still look perfect, I would expect a 50/50 cost on replacement.

It’s not usual practice to replace seals when replacing clutch, but it’s best to check for leaks after a test drive before handing it back to the customer, seals can be replaced without gearbox removal & I would expect some gesture of good will to be in order.

I've just done the clutch on my ducato and my off side drive shaft seal was leaking prior to doing it.

I replaced both seals whilst the gearbox was out as it made sense, cost was £36 for both seals delivered next day, although I have seen them cheaper.

Mine is the 6 speed M40 gearbox

How many hours labour would you expect to replace near side seal ?

as others have said just needs half shaft removed. For the few quid they cost i always change them if the half shaft has to come out for any reason & I make sure that the splines don't touch the seal lip when inserting. That's just me though over thinking everything.

Just by way of an update.
The workshop had it back this week and picked up this afternoon.
They spun me some line about not being able to get the seals now, they have been updated by Fiat and now you have to buy an improved part from them, a seal and a flange together for 45 quid.
Anyway it's back together now and hopefully I'll be able to get away soon.
They only charged one hours labour so not too bad.
By chance I was looking on GSF and a new NS drive shaft kit including both cv's already greased and assembled was only 59 quid.
Makes the flange and seal look expensive, if the kit includes the flange and seal.

Sadly I don’t think that driveshaft kit would include the seal.

I couldn't find the nearside seal without the flange either but I rang asap gearboxes direct and they supplied both seals next day
