Hi

I guess working out the price of a second hand MH is difficult enough normally, but with the ever changing market prices due to CV-19 this could be even more a challenge. So for a total newbie like myself I'm struck with a dilemma about what to offer/pay for a MH we would really like.

The MH is a RollerTeam 707 2013 model. It's pretty standard aside from bike rack. It's low mileage (<20k) with FSH, MOT Jan 21 and very recent habitation and damp check. I've done the miles to view and had a prod around with my damp meter too and was really impressed with the MH and owner.

Trying to do some research as to what it's worth has been tough. There were only 2 on the market last week on auto trader of the same year, both with dealers. One at £34k and one that was on at £28k having been reduced from £31 - this was higher mileage at 41k. The latter has now sold.

The one i'm interested in is a private seller and has is asking £32,995. I appreciate everything is worth what you are willing to spend but I'd really welcome any thoughts about how much I should be paying for this? I'm totally content with the vehicle and have factored in all the cost regarding pick up, Tax, insurance, recovery and initial outlay on some security. What I don't want to do is over pay for something that I can't gauge a price of due to lack of current models on the market.

Thank you in advance and upmost apologies to the current owner should he see this - I'm sure he'd understand!

Well you are certainly in the right place to ask questions although l see that your avatar is green which means you are a new member so are allowed 5 free posts before paying the unearthly sum of 15 to be able to access the tons of info on this site.
It's the nature of the beast, l feel that l undersold my previous van and also overpaid when l bought my latest from a dealer.
But l did sell my old one and l now have my dream van sitting outside so
I know nothing of the van you are thinking off but if you have/are doing your research and it is the van you want l would say go for it, and offer 30 :whistle2:

If you are happy with what you have seen and its what you want don't lose it by making a stupidly low offer and insulting the current owner. Perhaps £32 grand would secure it.

If you're sure you made all the checks & it's the one for you, then I would go in at thirty grand and negotiate from there

£1,000 lower than a dealer's price in a private sale is too low a discount, since you have no legal comeback under Sale of Goods legislation and no warranty.

When I bought privately the discount was more in the 12-15% range. That is probably what a dealer would offer the seller.

It's probably top end pricing but you didn't see the others at the dealers - they might have been dogs.
If you're happy with the van, it's what you want and within budget [ie you have a contingency for unforeseen repairs] and you get good vibes from the seller, then either ask what's his best price or go for the clean £32k.

I was going to say start at £31k . I wouldn't take much notice of the mileage after all the base vehicle is a van I don't think whether it's got 20k or 40k on it will make much difference. I think the big advantage of buying privately is you can see the owners and ask lots of questions. Is there any accident history have they had many problems why are they selling etc.
