Autoquest 196
Exp
2020
Hi I am not yet qualified to describe myself as either a newbie nor a novice I am aspiring to these levels. I am looking at buying a new motorhome Autoquest 196 and would welcome any views on installing a Gasflow system from new rather than going with Calor? Eventually we would like to tour Europe on a regular basis, there appears to be LPG available about 4 miles away. Any advice would be very welcome. Thank you in advance.

Do it, it's great. You don't need hook up if you can power the fridge on gas. Hook up here on our site in Spain is 40c/kwh so we don't use it (except hair dryer🙄😁)

:welco:
Well worth it so much more convenient as you can get gas in any country. Also saves lugging heavy bottles about.
Gas-it bottles made in the same factory as Gaslow but cheaper. If tight on payload Alugas bottles are ½ the weight, a bit dearer but very good quality.

Thanks Lenny it is Gaslow of course.

Can I throw you a swerve ball, you could save weight and gain cupboard space by buying a Wallas hob/heater, this runs off your diesel tank so you don’t have to worry about looking for LPG or gas, no good if you want a oven. But if you consider the weight of full gas bottles and the safety aspects of having gas in a confined space then it could work for you. take a look https://wallas.fi/index.php?id=117
we love ours along with our Romoska cooker pan which you can use instead of a oven, we have cooked a roast chicken in the Romoska. good look with your research

Do check if there's room underneath for underslung tank. If so, for a bit more money, your old gas locker becomes useful storage space. If not, never mind, refillable is way more convenient than replaceable bottles, especially if you tour lots of countries with different imcompatible suppliers.

Thanks Otter I value the oven that comes as standard but I do think you point visavis weight etc.

I fitted Gaslow and currently on country no 30 .only issues filling was Italy where its illegal to fill (wait for the no it's not brigade) but always an independent garage willing to take your euros.Denmark and Norway not a great network for filling and no LPG in Finland .

Never regretted having it for a moment. So convenient and cheap to refill.

I agree with all previous comments.
Just to add, the gas is much much cheaper than calor and you are not having to wait for a bottle to run out before having a refill.

Definitely don't disregard Alugas without a close examination, our 14kg weighs less than a Calor 6kg cylinder!
It's most important where gas lockers are behind the rear axle as on the 196 as loading is crucial in keeping within payload.

We’ve had Gaslow since 2012 absolutely banging!
Very good, easy to live with and much cheaper than buying a bottle every time!
Last fill up in France was 26.08 litres cost 19.26€ Roughly £17 depending on exchange rate!

hi welcome.

we have had a gasit system 2 x 11kg bottles for several years in total. so simple and cost effective.

Go for it. The gas will be cheaper and you will be able get it in the rest of Europe. But, for me, the most important thing is the convenience. No more lugging heavy gas bottles and having to lift them into the gas locker. Just fill up like you would with diesel.

We have had our Gasit system for some time now. But if I was to choose now I would be tempted to splash a bit more cash on the Alugas system.

I fitted one Calor and one Gaslow (belt 'n braces) as LPG pumps seem to be on the wane in U.K. Took me about an hour all told. The Calor was intended as a 'reserve' to the refillable Gaslow but since 95% of my touring is abroad where pumps have been plentiful I've not yet had to resort to the Calor. I only tour where it's warm enough not to need the heating or the oven. ;)

Don’t know how I did it before, messing about swapping bottles....sometimes with frozen hands in ski resorts. First thing I installed in new van....Don’t hesitate.

Been using it for 10 years as far as I am concerned it is a no brainer.Plenty of places to fill up in the uk.

Don't forget to buy a set of adapters for the various countries you might travel in.

If you have gaslow , do you need different adapters for different countries

If you do have to buy a bottle on the road, it needn't be a disaster. In France for example the deposit on a 13kg propane bottle is 9 euros, and if you keep the receipt you can give it back and get 9 euros back. None of this Calor ripoff where you never get the whole (expensive) deposit back.

BTW if anyone wants to know, you can fit a Gaslow 11kg and a French 13kg propane in a Hymer B584 gas cupboard. It won't take the Gaslow plus a Calor 13kg. If you are considering 2 bottles, remember to measure the door as well as the cupboard.

Oops just read coolcats , and answers all my questions. Thanks
