I've just purchased a Gaslow refillable set up. I have the option of fitting the filler kit inside the gas locker using a bracket or through the skirting.. However, I'm told some service stations will not let you refill if you had to open the gas locker. I'd be interested in your experiences.

Heard people say that too, our fill point is in the gas locker and never had anybody question it in 7 years 👍

I put mine in the skirt, my reasoning was it was easier. The pigtail won't be constantly moved about opening and shutting the door.
Either option would work, but I'm still precious about making holes in our baby!!
I did note the replacement caps were £14.00 , so I added a tether to the cap so it stays attached to the van. I wish I had done that to the water cap. When we were in Carradale {Kintyre}, recently, the filling hose there was so so slow, [15mins +] I put the cap down on the ground and started faffing about with something else. Of course it started to overflow a couple of minutes after I took my eye of it, in the confusion I forgot about the cap and drove off. I thought somebody might hand it in, but no such luck. The new one is now also tethered to the van.

No hole with filler inside the gas locker?

Why not ask at your local station?
That will be the one you use most.
I have no problem without an external filler but have not needed to re-fill away from home for some time.
I use my known 'tame' suppliers most of the time.

I put our filler in the lower sill as I wanted it on the same side as the fuel filler. If you put it in a locker and are refused gas just go to the next station.

Morrisons are happy to fill SafeFill bottles, which cannot be filled remotely and must be connected to directly. That is little different to connecting to a fill point within the locker.

Just to add.... mine is inside, never been refused in 8 years and easily moved from one van to the next. Good luck

Had it in the locker on two previous vans, only had the occasional problem (in France, uniquement!). Have it externally in the bodywork now, same side as the diesel. No problem in nearly four years.

We had ours in the locker but moved it to the skirt because sometimes there’s not enough room to open the top hinged locker.

I think it would be impossible to fill mine if it were in the locker. Wouldn't be able to open the big garage door next to the pump & if I could get it fully open I would then have to take loads of stuff out of the garage to get the locker door open far enough.

Externally, we've had refillables since 2006 and have had a few occasions when we've been refused so on our last 3 vehicles I've fitted it externally, no issues since.

I used the smaller 'square' black filler instead of the stupidly large round one, much easier to fit and importantly find a suitable place to fit it.

I didn't fit mine in the skirt because the pump 'guns' are quite heavy, bulky and awkward to connect and I felt it would be a fag trying to connect it when crouched down so low.

I don't have to crouch, just bend over and attach the gun once I've screwed in the adaptor (as we have twin 11kg bottles I don't have to do it that often!). As for the weight of the gun, that's why I said about having to find a suitable place to fit it which was much easier with the smaller filler, any bigger and it would have had to go into a weaker point of the skirt and be braced etc.

There is one advantage of not using a bracket within the locker: Those brackets are expensive (£15, I think).
So long as you don't wreck your vehicle when you drill through, the cost of a hole could be £0.

Not necessarily. We spend most holidays around Europe, so the first thing is to cross the channel. I know I can fill up whenever I want, so don't think about it in the UK. Once when I actually filled from the local station, the first time for ages, I was frantically looking round for the correct adaptor, couldn't find it, and went home. Then remembered - in the UK it doesn't need an adaptor, it's got the correct fitting on it already:doh:

What about the cost of the hole saw and arbour 🤔😊

At least that would cost less than the bracket and be usable in the future when you move the cylinders etc to your next MH and need to drill another big hole! (y)
