Yesterday we detected a gas smell in the motor home so we tried the usual detecting stuff.
got it down to the cooker so turned off stopcock to the cooker and all other appliances turning them on one by one.
Decided it was definitely the cooker.
Smell coming from around seal in sink.
No smell in small cupboard between fridge and cooker.
Turned everything off and called a caravan servicing engineer. He said he will come today at 4pm to do a gas test leak.
No smell leaving the fridge on gas.
No ehu for back up.
Today all smell gone so switched on all stopcocks again. No smell.
What could have happened?
Wind direction has changed so maybe under van?

If your gas bottle is getting low you sometimes get a smell we did at the weekend and when I check the bottle it was nearly empty just a thtough

Maybe worth checking the date stamp on the hose from your gas bottle. We had a gas smell recently and discovered that this hose was leaking and was out of its sell by date. I think it is recommended to replace this hose every four or five years. We assumed, wrongly, that this would be covered in the habitation check ..........

Bottles and hoses new in August 2013.
Can only guess that we might have left a knob on the cooker slightly open.

Have you emptied your waste tank, can smell a bit gassy in hot weather, I know as I spent two days looking for a gas leak

Gas leaks are not to be taken lightly. You could lose your lives and your van. It would be sensible, if you want to be safe, to get a gas fitter (Corgi and all that) to run their gas leak detector around the plumbing to ensure all is in order.

We have arranged a gas fitter to gas test, going to get it all together with a hab service. Just waiting for him to ring me back with a time.

Corgi now gone for good mate. Something else new running now. (Probably exactly the same, except that you get charged twice the fee). By the way, It's now called GAS SAFE......

The pressure test will tell you if you have a leak, they charged the system up and leave it for an hour, any leakage will show on the ladder dial, you've done the right thing to book the test!

I've just been shown how to test for a leak.
Did that and no leak.
Feel safe but still booking a gas test, along with a hab service.

Now it seems tests have been booked,we can take a lighthearted approach. Gas smells in the MH? isn't this normal? I blame too much booze, bread and lack of exercise. This is based on our experience on our "farting around Scotland tour" plus some memorable visits to Spain.

could always have a leak detector fitted.. mine is very sensitive, but only detects the leak downstream of where its fitted so as close to regulator as possible.. ta andy

A couple of yrs ago,on Brantome aire we both had showers one after the other. Carolyn went first and then I went into shower and she was drying herself in van. When I came out of shower there was a smell of gas. We tracked it down to the oven being turned on.Carolyn had inadvertently rubbed her towel against it as she dryed herself

That's what maybe happened with us.
