Gas Ring Will Not Alight? (1 Viewer)

We have a three ring gas hob (Dometici think!) fitted in our 18month old Hymer. As stated it had three rings and for some reason one of the rings will not stay alight. If you hold the button in it will stay on but as soon as you realease the button it goes out.

Hope some one has an answer.

The thermal pin beside the burner has gone or hopefully a wire has come of, have a look underneath and make sure the wire is firm..

might be a bit simpler if you are lucky, try slightly rotating the black centre of the hob where the flames come out from, if slightly out of alignment it might cause this issue

although if it actually lights it might be as already suggested above

Try cleaning the top of the flame failure device with a green pad first, works on mine.

Hold the flame from a BBQ lighter on the thermocouple to warm it up and see if it stays alight. If it does just a case of adjusting the position of it. Can be done buy unscrewing and taking of the flame spreader then unscrewing and taking off the burner then you can move it around and get it closer to the flame.

Most likely a bad connection on the thermocouple.

These flame failure devices often give trouble and if all else fails can be replaced. They are not cheap though. All three were playing up on our hob and it cost very little more to get a new hob.

It could be the thermocouple but on the Dometic cooker they are not the traditional ones as they operate an electromagnetic cut off that is situated in each of the gas knobs/valves and if one of them is the problem get a second mortgage out.

A Woosh bang
the most common problem is the tip of the thermocouple is not in blue part of the flame.. this is critical .

check that the thermocouple hasn't slipped down, there is a small cir-clip around it to keep it in position, they can rust away and it slips down .. also check the flame , if it's not a nice blue even flame aligned with the tip, remove the burner cap and clean it.

Race van conversion for years
One burner (Smev) in the race van wouldn't stay lit once & the thermocouple had moved somehow such a small amount, I had a fiddle about with it & all fine, as @scotjimland said above its critical to be in the blue part of the flame.

Probably a thermocouple, an easy fix. Buy a replacement from leisure shop direct. Not expensive.
You’ll need your hob model number
Just unscrew the hob and replace like for like

It’s a low voltage electrical component so no gas connections involved

There’s Information if you google Dometic thermocouple issues.

Pull the knob off, then try using a pair of grips as the knob and see if it works.
