I suspect I know the answer already...

Do these magnetic gas level gauges actually work? Or are they a load of old toot?

If they are not worth the magnetic plastic they're printed on, any suggestions for a way to detect gas levels?

I used to have a gauge built in to the old regulator but I swapped the reg for a hand wheel one, with no gauge...

They're pretty naff. They rely on the liquid being cooler than the gas above it - which is only true if gas is being drawn off at the time of measurement. The expensive ultrasonic ones work (unless the bottle is Gaslow or any other refillable with a cut-off float) and the ones connected to the cut-off float work - the latest Gaslow bottles have them.

They are between useless and unreliable IMHO
Our cure is to only have one open at a time and know we have to fill up within a week or so whilst using the second one. Rudimentary but it works
