Do I need to have water in the system to activate the heating

In the Truma Operating Manual ; it states on more than one occasion that :
( i ) : Heating operation is basically possible without restriction with or without water content. ( verbatim)

I've got truma and put heating on gas this morning with empty system to warm.van for cleaning and to allow the water tank to be filled.

No problem but never do it with the electric.

Going away this weekend in our Burstner Harmony 690g was thinking about not putting any water in Van at all in case temperature drops, so why don't you use Heating on EHU with no water in the Van ,was thinking of using the Heating this way , thanks Chris.

My understanding is yes the water drains from heater on low temp. However it is the pump that keeps pumping it out of the fresh water tank until there is none left to drain. If you switch off the pump when sleeping or not in the van you loose only approximately 10lts. from the heater boiler.
It is just as if you left a tap running. Switch the pump off and water stops running.

Sorry don't understand that last post , I will have no water in the Van at all ,(taking 5ltr bottle for kettle/toilet flush ect )so can I use Heating on EHU or just Gas, thanks Chris.

I drain down the Truma boiler each winter and don't refill it until the spring every year. The gas blown heating operates no problem at all! BUT I never use the 230v side of it....

Yes, cheap as chips replacement compared to the Truma heating rods. We carry a fans as well, not sure how well the "cooling fan" in the Truma system would perform, but probably not that well.
Mike.

MichaelT said the same wouldn't use Elec with no water....why is it that the Gas is OK & not elec ???? Will be on a C& MHC Site this weekend so showers ect will b ok.

Very expensive to have the heating rods replaced water or space heating.

I have a Truma system in my Swift C205. On Thursday I took my MH to the dealers to sort out some warranty work. Whilst there I asked the tech fella exactly this question as I too was under the impression that when you have drained the water out of the system including the boiler, you cannot use the heating. He said that, no, that isnt the case and a lot people make that assumption but the heating system is quite safe to use without water in the system.
To be honest, I dont recall him saying as to whether you should use the gas only and not electric, but he definitely confirmed the heating is safe to use with out water in it.

So arn't the heating rods in operation on Gas ???
On ours you select the power source either as a stand alone, or combination of both electric and gas, when on hook up, or a Huge lithium and inverter package😅
