Hi All,

We need to get a gas-it/gaslow system fitted to our motorhome before hitting Europe. Would anyone know of a installer/engineer in the South East that could help? Any recommendations greatly received.

Thanks

Have you considered "Safefill" cylinders? Nothing against Reliance, I've used them and would recommend them. Ditto Gaslow, but with hindsight, one safefill and one calor would have sufficed.

As above, we just have one refillable and a calor bottle as a reserve. When the refillable runs out, we use the calor and get the refillable topped up at the earliest opportunity....then revert back to the refillable.

The main incoming gas supply is fitted with a single (common) gas regulator which connects to a T-piece with a hose going to each cylinder. The calor bottle is always turned off. When the gas in the refillable cylinder is exhausted...this is obvious by no gas at the hob. You then need to nip outside and turn on the calor bottle.

This system avoids having to buy 2 refillable bottles and has the added bonus of letting you know when the primary bottle needs replenishing.

This method is not totally foolproof - cos you might go out for the day and find your fridge defrosting. So far, we haven't experienced that 🤞

Hi both wagoneer and bouncy boatfolk, I like the idea behind safe fill. The lightness, being able to see how much you have left etc. But how likely are petrol stations in Denmark, Norway, Finland etc allow you to fill up a refillable safefill? Just don't want to get caught out.
Cheers

Not toured in more northern climates, but I'm sure others have and can advise.

A 10kg Safefill always lasts us over two weeks . You then have over two weeks to find an LPG garage before the other one runs out and to top them both up.

I've looked at the Safefill and like the idea, but (and I'm most likely wrong here) think it maybe more problematic being allowed to refill it in petrol stations. It seems there maybe a lack of knowledge/training from petrol station staff forecourts on what can be/can't be refilled.

We've found a business fairly local who can fit a gaslow, so will will probably take that course of action - cheers all and thanks

Gaslow doesn't really need fitting. Buy a bottle and the correct hose/pigtail. Jobs done. I did add an external fill point which means you don't need to open the gas cupboard, therefore no questions asked by any station staff. Even fitting that was an easy DIY job.

I thought having an internal filling point was as problematic as Safefill?
I really like the idea of Safefill but not that you are playing forecourt roulette. Whether they’ll let you fill up or not.

Thanks for all your help guys. We've found someone really local to fit the gas-it and calor, so we can use both

How did yomanage that we only get 15 to 18 days from one of our 14kg cylinders & that's with hardly any heating being used.

Didn’t use the heating much as we went in May -June-July although it was very cold at Arvidsjaur where we used it for a while.😊 and used sites so had hook up.👍

Were hardly ever use EHU and since I fitted an internal fan to the fridge it uses quite a bit more gas, a small price for cold beer.
