Third question today but getting closer to picking our MH so need to get my arse in gear 😊.
The MH is being displayed without gas bottles. I’m wondering is this a safety thing or the norm should I expect gas bottles to be supplied? If I need to supply my own gas bottles should I buy from the dealer or should I go eisewhere. I don’t mind paying a few quid extra but dont want to get ripped off the day I pick the van up.

Many thank
more questions to follow.

Ask for one to be provided with the purchase, otherwise you won’t know if items (fridge, heater and so on) work or not. Then consider if you want to stay with calour or go for refillable cylinders. We went refillables.

What Landy Andy said.
When they do the handover to you,how can they show you how things work, withouthaving gas connected?
Compared to the price you’ve paid for the van,the cost for them of giving you a bottle is tiny.

Most dealers would have a gas cylinder for handover purposes only then you can decide what you are going with. We do a lot of European travel and I fitted my own Gasit refillable system very easy if you are competent DIY ‘er. 😊

Thanks for responses. I’m starting to realise how little I know. Is the reason for refillable systems one of convenience or cost or both. I have no clue how much gas we will use or how much it costs.

I was much the same as you so used the gas in the bottles until it ran out, then the plan was to exchange and monitor usage, but then along came lock down.
Why are they not suppling bottles?
https://www.caravanbreakers.net/ these will have bottles

Hi, they’ve not said they won’t supply bottles yet I only just noticed there where none cited to be honest. I kick myself for not getting that sorted before doing the deal tbh.
cheers

Ditto as per speve
But if not plenty of good fitters available including Rhinoinstalls (see ad below)

When I got ours in march (private sale) insisted on testing everything, started on 240v hook up (fridge, electrics, hot water air con...) Then fridge on gas, checked cooker, hot water etc then finally 12v engine off, then on.

Made certain there was gas

That was before we had a test drive

Most dealer would supply a gas bottle of a size that suits your van. I even nsisted that that they changed the 11kg one they fitted for a 13kg that fitted properly. All dealer tend to supply and fit a TV aerial and in the UK an oven and grill. Within the deal

When I picked up my MH it only had small calor bottles. I read that propane is better for winter use as they work at lower temperatures so I changed them for 2 larger propane. The advantage, if you have room for 2 bottles is you can operate a system. When one runs out you use the second bottle until you replace the first, that way you don’t run out of gas. Thought about going the refillable Gas cylinder route but this is a bigger investment and I thought not nessary on shorter trips. Good luck.
