More than toes wet now!
Hi,
I am thinking of buying a Garmin 770lmt sat nav good idea or bad ?
Many thanks in advance

Bill
Oh no!!!!! Another stick whacking the hornets nest!
You'll get responses from greatest thing since sliced bread to steep it for a fortnight and then burn it.
Personally, I think my 760lmt, using it with Gramin BaseCamp on computer, is very good.(y)

ps, think you can still pick up a 760 for around £50 less than 770.

I have my 760 for quite some time and my only reservation is once it sent me down a country lane, which I had to go about 3 miles to be able to turn around, it took an age to turn around in somebodies driveway (fortunately they weren't in). Only happened once.
The other problem I have had is downloading North America North and Canada software, through GarminExpress. It takes so long, it keeps sending error messages - "error loading software". I had a micro sd card installed for the upload, but whatever I did it wouldn't download.
I contacted Garmin and they refunded my money and I placed an order on them for a loaded micro sd card and I now have Canada loaded for my visit in Sept. You have to change which map you want to use, in the settings "MyMaps"

I am not sure which maps you have loaded into your 770 check on settings "MyMaps" it maybe just Europe North only, which doesn't cover France, Spain, Greece, Portrugal etc. If you want to visit Europe South you will have purchase a micro sd card for £74.99. Garmin has a special offer at present for 25% less, I have purchased one for £56.50 approx.
Don't try downloading the file.
Apart from those items above - it is great, would recommend one

I have the smaller version of the 760. It's the 660 camper and it does me in my wagon, 14'10" x 60' long and 44 tonnes. Just change to my Moho and did 4000 miles around France, Switzerland and Italy, no problem.

New to owning, have hired once.
I have used google maps and am thinking of getting the Garmin 770. I really like the google directions on a motorway i.e. in two miles use middle lane for... then, in one mile use middle lane for.... does the Garmin 770 do this? can anyone tell me please?

Eight Years and 28,000 Miles.
Don't know about the 770, but my elderly (by electronic standards) Zumo 660 not only gives you instructions, but often shows a photograph of the junction as you approach it.

90% of sat nav performance is directly proportional to the users understanding of what to realistically expect from it and their level of common sense.

Thanks for the replies.
I was thinking specifically about the advance warning of which lane to be in.

Garmin is a good one to get I'm looking at the 770lmt to replace my aging dezl which is on the brink of being run over by my van as it is not working very well and let me down several times this trip even after updating it before leaving.

All comes down to size and prices but 660/760/770 are all good.

Just bought an Eriba FT 580
TomTom has died. Note to self. Do not leave satnav in direct sunlight in car for 8 hours when it's 35 in the shade.

So anyhoo, decided to get the camper 770 LMT-D as a replacement purely on the basis that they had it in stock and my need is immediate.

First impressions - screen is best I've ever seen, clear even in direct sunlight. Don't like the way it boots up every time it's started, even when on a continuing journey. Maybe I just haven't found the sleep option yet.

Since my last Garmin the voice directions are definitely improved - it even speaks Gemran and French street names almost correctly :)

I'll do a longer term review later - for now I'm quite pleased with it.

With my Garmin 760, I unplug it and it goes to sleep, then when I plug it in again, it starts up very quickly. I never actually switch it off.

Got our 770 LMT-D last week in Germany it's been a great buy at £293 and what a difference compared to the old Dezl 560. Really clear screen and good lane directions in plenty of time also like the way it tells you to turn l or r at the end of the street so you are in no doubt what to do.
