Before we came across the outage situation we rang Halfords to arrange a refund and order us in a TomTom Go Camper instead.

The problem with Garmin are temporary, they are under attack. I found the Tom Tom to be inferior and that is permanent.

I'm a Progressing Newbie
I was able to add weight OK & later got the GPSr to sync to the all for the missed rides & walks.. 😎
Just a correction - I did get to add a weight value this morning but checking now it wasn’t saved.
But 8hrs on & Garmin is getting better, step by step.
It’s slow to load historical data - but that could be my end as on a poor 4G link.

Had another go at the 890....maps and software down loaded and updated O.K.
Bit of a problem with the my drive pairing with the unit....struggled.
Still no campsite directory that is supposed to be preloaded?
Voice activation.......the machine is saying not available for this language  I put in British English....perhaps I should try Russian:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Any ideas or help welcomed....thank you (y)

AT LAST.....the Garmin 890 is operating as it should now.
Campsite directory....voice commands....navigation.....weather.....all good.
Been playing around with the machine and liking it very much.

I was trying to update the maps and software via the wifi.....after 2 factory resets I was still having no joy.
Thinking this must all be down to Garmin outage.
So tried the computer route via Garmin Express.....SUCCESS all good.

Thought I would pass this on for anyone else tearing their hair out at the moment trying to configure the machine.

Happy days (y) (y):giggle:

Must admit I do wonder about the wifi update capabilities of some kit!

We are off on a trip soon for a couple of days to see family.
So the Garmin will have its first work out with us.
Even after all the problems.....I am feeling confident.
The 890 interface is a joy to use....responsive and not at all clunky.

We bought a new Garmin 890 a few days ago.
No problem downloading the software and map updates.
But the campsite directory and voice commands are just not there........tried just about everything.

Before we came across the outage situation we rang Halfords to arrange a refund and order us in a TomTom Go Camper instead.

May hang on though and see what happens once this Garmin problem gets resolved.

Still in two minds to exchange the unit for a TomTom though.

What would you do??:giggle:.......and please don't say buy a map:LOL:

I have a 2003 copy of the truckers Atlas?. Seriously I had a hard time getting the Garmin to play ball, it wanted to route me (and did several times) down unsuitable roads, then I wanted to reset and re route I had to find a layby, and sit and go through all the menus. The final straw (for me) was it was 5mm to big for where I wanted to place it (in my eyeline). So I swapped it out for a smaller Tom Tom. who`s interface I an used to having had one in the US R-V courtesy of Wall Mart!.

The problem with Garmin are temporary, they are under attack. I found the Tom Tom to be inferior and that is permanent.
Now I found the opposite. The Garmin was a right PITA. not at all user friendly. Which goes to show there is no "one size fits all". The T-T interface and downloads are simpler and quicker IMV.
The end is nigh .....

OR "The truth is out there".
