Just downloaded Garmin express onto new computer, connected stat nav to update maps ---- says 3hours to download  Is this normal, seems an excessively long time.

It could well take a long time but may not actually take as much as 3 hours. I think what they do is give a worst case figure so that people are pleased when it is quicker.

I think it took about an hour last time I did it a few months ago.

My updates take at least 2 hours. It has been a long time since I have been 'offered' updated maps by Garmin Express. My maps are currently 2015.30 ; what map version have you downloaded?

Its still downloading, I will let you know when its finished, if this is what they call express God knows what they would class as normal.

EDIT, just looked at the download screen, and its downloading 2015.30. 30% loaded and counting

My Garmins always take a min of three hours but likely due to my BT Snail Broadband, it would be quicker by pigeon

We have rubbish speed broadband, less than 1mb and Garmin updates can take all day ( or all night if I remember to do it last thing) I think their servers are very slow though, even when we had 10mb download speed, it took 2 or 3 hours

2.5MB download when I'm lucky, do mine overnight but on the odd occasion I have got up to a "Fail" message and have to start over. :(
