Hi all just awaiting the arrival of my compass castaway rg, looking for a moped to go in the back, forgot to measure the door opening size so I can check moped size before buying one.
Anyone on here know the opening size please

Have you done the weight calculation to see you aren't overloading the rear axle ? Or what weight of scooter is possible , dont just go by garage floor limit sticker.

Just had a look at some info & pics of one, the door looks high enough but if it's on a 3850kg chassis as said you may be in danger of overloading the rear axle. Will probably be OK on a maxi chassis (4250kg).

Why not ask the seller or dealer to measure the height of the garage door for you. It might also be wise to get them to confirm the permissible rear axle load from the VIN plate. If it's only 2000kg, you might struggle.

Generally speaking, you probably need about 110cm to accommodate most scooters. But those with bigger wheels can be up to 120cm at the handlebar.

Thanks for all the replies, it's on an alko chassis and looked on there website and they show pics of a moped on a skate being loaded but a very good point with regards to weight, the compass has a 550 kg and it's 3850kg

Al-KO light chassis only has a rear axle loading of 2000kg you can increase it to 2240kg (which I reckon you will need to do) by changing the tyres to 225 section and fitting rear air suspension, likely to cost around £2300-£2500.

You should check what else you need to subtract from the 550kg. Have you any options fitted? Does it include any people, water, fuel, clothes, bedding, pots and pans, crockery, picnic chairs and table.....the list will go on.

@bill kircher before you start buying mopeds , weigh the front and rear axles separately , note how much fuel and water you have on board , best with full fuel , as water can be adjusted as required .
Then you can work out what total weight is and then you can start to see what you can put where . Putting stuff in garage doesn't just add that weight as it multiplies by distance behind rear axle transferring weight to rear axle and also reducing front axle weight .

Very true I reckon 700kg is about right for two with bikes not a scooter.
