Anyone know about staying there, eg at Clatteringshawas visitor centre, in the van. Can't find any useful info on website.

There are quite a few places where they load logs that you could park overnight off of the road.

Should be ok there if not go to the deer centre a few miles passed Clatteringshaws heading west, we normally stay in the top car park.

Over 6000 miles between 3 March to 26 September 2017.
If you head away from the visitor centre with the loch on your right, there is shortly a left turn onto the Raider''s Road. As you turn into it there is a car park on your right. We overnighted there once.

Since 1964 Gosh that makes me feel old.
No midges at all at this time of year.
There is a dark skies observatory at Craigengillan estate
, http://www.ahss.org.uk/events/craigengillan-estate-scottish-dark-sky-observatory-coach-tour/

You enter the observatory from the small road leading to Loch Doon, wild camping at the far end of the Loch near the castle is perfect & at this time of year the amount of stars you can see is mind blowing.

Nice wee campsite next to House O The Hill pub. There are some weight restrictions about 1.1miles from Bruce's Stone & I for one wouldn't risk crossing it in a heavy motorhome.
