Our 1400 crossing to Portsmouth has been delayed. Apparently one of the engines has a fault. The captain has announced that we will be leaving this evening (no time given). I’m not sure if that’s to allow time for a repair or to allow the sea state to improve to allow a single engined crossing. 🤷‍♂️

Any other Funsters on board?

Ian

Yes, we're on it too. Not surprised,it looks like it's been built on the cheap.

Reminds me of a mini cruise on the then brand new Pont Aven many years ago. Arrived in plenty of time but the boat had sailed early due to one of the 4 engines not working. We had moved house and all the letters back then to let us know of the timetable change went to the old house address. Ended up with s nice weekend in Devon instead.

Anyone know if you can park up at the port when arriving ?

Years ago back in the early 70s, we'd been camping in Spain and decided to book the return from St Malo since BF were offering free showers on their brand new ship. we arrived in St Malo 3/4 hours early and thought we'd park at the port and have a look around the town. When we arrived at the port we followed the directions, and hand signals from staff, and ended up on the linkspan!!!!!!!!!
Apparently they had run Armorique onto the rocks for the second time in a week and it had been withdrawn for checks. They had chartered a Danish internal railway ferry as a replacement, and the Captain insisted on sailing from St Malo according to the tide times. No stabilisers, which didn't bother us but we were the exceptions. The ship sailed 2 1/2 hours early, with cars still on the linkspan. The French crew weren't happy about working on such a small ship and can you believe, initially refused to open the bars and restaurants until the scheduled time if the ship had left normally. It took an almost riot before they agreed to open, but the whole trip was marked by surly service through out.
To cap it all, in those days customs and immigration were sent down to Portsmouth from Southampton, and nobody had told them we were coming early, so everyone was stuck on the car deck for about an hour.
I swore then I'd never travel BF again, and didn't until I was part of a group trip to Le Mans in the late 1920s

On the move now
bigtwin we are on board currently in the Plaza Bar deck 8 if you want a chat

Oops, was in the restaurant eating when you posted so wasn’t online. Taking advantage of the free 45mins wifi access now.

Folks do park overnight when catching an early morning ferry. Otherwise, the marina at Port Solent is popular.

We, and another MH will be heading there when we land. The location details are on both SfS and P4N.

We are sailing on this ship. Late August . Can you let us know What the breakfast is like on this floating rust bucket. :ROFLMAO:. We got the offer of free food. so just asking.

Guessing that Galicia has got both generator engines working but it's not an endorsement of Chinese engineering when Salamanca has had similar technical issues recently!
Had a quick Google, but couldn't fine the relevant info. When you say "Generator Engines ", is this one of the newer type of boats that has the huge "electric outboard motors" fitted to it ?

Breakfast is fine. It’s typical French (low budget) pastries, with the option of a cooked breakfast (possibly for an extra payment - we were in the Club Lounge where it was free of any additional charge) consisting of scrambled eggs, sausage and French wafer thin bacon.

Dinner was good too but, due to Covid related staff shortages, was a queue up affair rather than the table/waiter service that we enjoyed on the way out.

Yes. Azipods. Rapidly replacing conventional shafts on many ferries and cruise ships.

Nothing new under the sun. Our tank carrying R.E. heavy ferries had a socking great RR engine on each corner. Great fun!

Docked at 2150 and second vehicle off! That’s a first! 🤔

Arrived at Port Solent safely and met Mike123.

All set for a ‘spoons breakfast in the morning before heading north.
