Philippft submitted a new Showcase Item:

Broken Link Removed

We visited the Romantic Road on our trip (2014) and decided to visit both Fussen and Neuschwanstein castle before heading across to Vienna.
So glad we did.

Beautiful place both in summer and winter. I saw the New Year in there - what spectacular fireworks displays all around viewed from a vantage point on the campsite. Shame I can't access the showcase but an error message says I have to sign in, I clearly am signed in or I wouldn't be able to post a reply.

We also love Germany, brings back happy memories and we were nearly going back on Sunday, but decided on Portugal, maybe next year. :D Bob.

We start a 6 week tour of Westphalia on 10th September, through the Tunnel at 1600. From Calais we plan to drive through France to Trier in Germany. Can't wait, I've been ticking off the dates on the calendar for months! Other than this we have no plan, we'll do whatever and wherever the trip takes us.

We are also planning to visit Germany from 21st - going for a late pm crossing and then driving to Luxembourg as Dashboard Doris says 3.5 hrs. Also starting our tour from Trier - Mosel - Rhine - bit of the Castle Route - bit of the Romantic route and then across to Salzburg to track back along the Alps - German Riviera and finally back to Colmar via part of the Black Forest
Well that's the plan anyway!!
Happy Travels

We ended up in Heidelberg by accident . There was a horrendous traffic jam on the Autobahn and we took the nearest exit and found a stellplatz which in turn was only 20 km away from Heidelberg . We stayed in a campsite by the river there and took the bus into town although it would have been just as easy to cycle to town . The campsite was very basic but perfect for seeing the town which is a very impressive historic university town with a lively wibe . Well worth a detour if you happen to be nearby.

Chunnel 23rd Sept, across to Frankfurt and pick up the Romantic Road, at the southern end onto Alpenstrasse from east to west then up into Black Forest, which should be brilliant in early October.

Picking up ideas from the forum all the time.

Another thought! many of the 'must see' towns/cities are subject to emission badge requirements - as with EHIC it is possible to get one from official source at sensible price or from internet specialist who will charge over the odds
We got ours badge from TUV Nord for 12.5 Euros (but must avoid the bank transfer charge) - did find one for 6 Euros (Berlin.com) but my IT would not attach both docs (app form and V5 scan?) the alt was 29.5 Euros (green-zones.eu)

You can get the badge from any rathaus (town hall) on arrival. I think it was 5 euro. Just take in your registration doc
