Funsters are only interested in AVOIDING roaming charges. :D

I make very few calls from abroad so find a PAYGO phone is much cheaper than my contract phone which will give me calls/texts and data for 24hrs for £3. I use Europasim for data as my phone contract doesn't allow tethering and browsing on a phone is something I only do in an emergency.

There is a lot of publicity about reduced roaming charges but beware some companies are only reducing the rate for data used on smart phones. I have a data only SIM and Vodafone inform me that the reductions do not apply. They are charging £8 for 100mb still.

I can get a Carrefour, Data only SIM, in Spain for 1 euro for 100mb

I make loads of calls when I am abroad for work purposes so I have signed up to the Vodafone thingy for £2 per day which then allows you to use your home package.

It might not be the cheapest way but at least it brings certainty.

I don't use my phone for data usage abroad much though and only switch that on once a day to get e-mails and deal with them

I'm on Three network for a SIM in my iPad, 1Gig a month for £7 in the UK. Just been informed that France is included in the countries where there are no extra roaming charges from the 1st of July, I can use my allowance the same as the UK. Which suits me fine as we're off there for 3 weeks on Friday. Other countries where Three are offering this:
